It's a simple choice this time, who do you want as the next president of the U.S.A. ?
For those not familiar with the format, you make your choice and it's put beside your name, the votes will be counted up at a later date, 5 spaces have been left for those that want to vote but aren't on the list.
Bush or Kerry ?

Heh. As opposed to Dubya, a deserter who lied about his National Guard Service record...

Anyone else find it ironic that Bell, a man who's response to being caught out lying is "everybody here lies", is using honesty to try and turn people against Kerry and in favour of Bush, a man who lied to start a war?

My God, next he'll be making thinly veiled threats of physical violence to anyone calling him fat. Won't you lardass?

There are many many links, here are a few with varying takes on the story about the purple hearts;

There are of course many many more.

The actual controversy is over how he went about obtaining the purple heart. No one is denying that wounded soldiers deserved the award, or that it was (obviously) a common medal (relatively). The point is that people who were there have a different version of events to those Kerry claims, in one of those above links it explains how a CO was so exasperated with Kerry that he told him to just "do what he wanted". If this were just a regular person then no one would be bothered, but this is someone running for President, who was more than happy to pick at his opponent's record.

Your choice, but it seems Kerry has a major honesty problem, at least with his past.

I'm going to go for Bush. I could offer a whole bunch of reasons as to why I prefer him, despite his many faults. I just can't be bothered because I have a really sore wrist and typing hurts.

Basically, Kerry was a big supporter of an Iraqi invasion at the time, so no reason to vote him over Bush with regard to that. Also, Bush gives more money to the military. Which I think is a good thing.

Hmm, I'd not heard about this particular one. Any links? (In particular for more detail about what he claimed)

I'm not sure about this. On one hand is the republican camp claiming Kerry devalues the award by having one without making a lazarus-style recovery. But he applied, and the standard channels for judging these things chose to award him the purple hearts.

So then you have to ask, are the republicans devaluing the award by claiming the procedures for awarding the PH gave them out to people who didn't deserve them?

I know both look a bit dodgy, but if we're going for the lesser of two evils (as with the whole election), I find myself on 'Kerry's side' here.

There's this thing called sarcasm Bell. You might want to look it up.

Oh, and the muckraking? Hey, at least he was in Vietnam to get purple hearts. I mean, he could have simply got his Daddy to get him a cushy posting in the Air national guard and not even bother to show for that. What, is being a deserter somehow better, eh Bell?

Hurrah Sheepy gets what I was saying. Flood me with reasons people, I expanded my knowledge of Kerry today with information on the controversy about Kerry's Vietnam experiences.

Apparently he's made claims in the past that his tour in Cambodia, which went over one Christmas, made him realise certain things, insight into war etc. With one small problem (which Vietnam buffs will spot straight away).

There were no US forces in Cambodia. And backing this up members of the unit Kerry was part of have come together to write a book about their service in Vietnam, and, well, put it this way, only way Kerry was in Cambodia was if he was by himself.

Then there is the issue of the Purple Hearts he received. US soldiers with 3 purple hearts had the option to go home. You got a purple heart if you were wounded by enemy fire. Kerry initially claimed his first purple heart for a shrapnel injury, but was denied it on the evidence of his boat crew who said it was self inflicted - not deliverate but not enemy fire. Kerry later made the same claim, when all the people who knew about it had left Vietnam, and was awarded the purple heart.

Sure, this would normally be a case of political muck raking, if not for the fact that the person making these claims served with Kerry and had documented the claims many years ago.

Oh right; you mean none of the reasons given acknowledge Bell's absolute superiority on all matters? Gotcha...

Heh. Thus far, the thread seems to go like this;

Bell: Someone tell me what the difference is between Bush and Kerry cos I think Bush is great.

(numerous people post reasons)

Bell: So no-one can tell me any differences then? Thought not. I must be right then.

(people try in vain to draw Bell's attention to all the reasons they've posted)

Bell: Oh, they're not proper reasons. Why? Uh...cos I disagree with them. Yep, no-one can come up with any reasons...

(people make it clear that one of the main reasons Bush has little support is that a self-obsessed tubby fool such as Bell is a fan)

Bell: How DARE none of you agree with me! I'm perfect! I'm never owned by anyone!! I'm always right!!

(Bell messes nappy as he becomes dimly aware of mocking laughter)
