It's a simple choice this time, who do you want as the next president of the U.S.A. ?
For those not familiar with the format, you make your choice and it's put beside your name, the votes will be counted up at a later date, 5 spaces have been left for those that want to vote but aren't on the list.
Bush or Kerry ?

I think a few million people in America and the World have their reasons for voting Kerry that simply 'aren't he isn't Bush'.

Sure, I'll admit my first thought would be just to get Bush out because I don't like him as the President. I see the alternative candidate from a less right-wing Party and I think that he will do a much better job on foreign policy which I highly doubt could be made worse. And I have read some articles that state Kerry's aims, however vague they might be.

Put it this way.

Bush is infamous for some certain things.
Some examples are pushing his Evangelical beliefs on the country and others are ignoring any country who disagree's with him, blanking them rather than communicating with them and working things out.

And Kerry seems to be more moderate in his character, which means that even if he does have the usual political corruptions, there's some obvious improvements straight there.

No I'm just trying to understand why so many want Kerry when very few can say why. Does it mean you'd support anyone instead of Bush? What inspires you about him, why do you like him ?, etc So far all I've seen of him are a few speeches, his acceptance thing at the DNC, and the oft used footage of him at the Vietnam hearing thing ages ago, and the newspot of him and his medals/ribbons along with the whole confusion about that along with an article on his own corporate links.

You may think my reasons for Bush are lame, but I'd say it's far worse to only be able to say "he's not Bush" because that reason stands for the entire population of Earth minus 1. So far only Light and Duck have any reasons at all - Light's being the tenuos (spelt wrong I know) one of Kerry involving more countries in what America does - which, granted, is possible, but just how you do it is another thing entirely.

Bell, that is possibly the worst pro-Bush argument I have ever read. And so what if the argument is 'he's not Bush'. Maybe people hope and want the next four years to be better and that ain't going to happen under Bush.

To suggest that because people don't know as much about how Kerry would run office we should all vote for Bush?

Ok then, if you're choosing Kerry for his political beliefs then what are his beliefs? Because "Democrat" can encompass a whole range of contradictory beliefs, and it's worth noting that what Bush did in office was totally different to his campaign in terms of policy, foreign at least.

I see what you're getting at Duck, but the fact remains that "he's not Bush" is about the most a majority here can manage.

They can tell you about Bush's links to corporations, but they can't tell you anything about Kerry's. Do they know he has them? Do they think it's just Bush who has them? Do they know it's the same, to a lesser extent, in the UK?

During the many many Iraq topics here, people made frequent references to it being an oil grab, but if they knew anything about Iraq and Oil then they'd know that a)the supplies in Iraq, even if they could be fully used, would only be enough for the US alone for a couple of years at most, b) Iraq and The Middle East isn't even the main source of US Oil? Apparently not.

We've got people who can tell you tons about the US, yet stuff all about here. Goatboy and others frequently make out like the conflict in Northern Ireland was an ignored one, the war on terror nobody cared about, yet to anyone who has read the slightest bit on what went on during the last 40 years in particlular that is blatantly untrue. If you think the abuses in Iraq are bad then even they pale beside what was allowed to go on in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

I think I've kinda stormed off topic here, and I'm obviously not talking about everyone, but it's the impression I get.

WTF? I am severely confused by this persistant attitude.

There are only 2 runners (with a cerdible chance of success), and you chose whoever most closely matches your political opinions.

The underlying point of all reasons given is that Kerry is preferred to Bush.
You can phrase it as 'Bush is retarded' or 'Kerry is the most intelligent candidate'.
You can phrase it as 'Bush is a fundamentalist' or 'Kerry is a moderate'
'Bush is right wing' or 'Kerry is fairly central'.

It doesn't matter, the difference is all semantics. It comes down to picking the best of the two candidates. If Kerry is closer to your political beliefs than Bush, that is a reason to vote for Kerry.

What on earth are you bringing in lotteries full of random people for? Sure, if someone else (or reasonable credentials) was the candidate, there's a fair chance he would also be widely considered better than Bush. But you have to choose between the available candidates.
There's no point saying 'I'm not going to vote for Bush or Kerry, because I'd prefer to vote for Ghandi, only he's not running!'

But, they are not reasons to vote for Kerry, if the thinking is that anything is better than Bush then you may as well have a national lottery to pick who gets to be President because it'll be just as good.

Only place I've been "owned" is in your little mind.

Oooh, nice!

Bell, any comment? Or don't those reasons count? Or maybe you'll just concentrate on the personal insults I've heaped upon you so that you don't have to think about just how badly you've been owned?
