We weren't fielding a full strength team either :D

No he hasn't.
He has 26 goals in 60 games, shearer got 30 in 63. which is just about better and shearer was a much better team player, less dependent on spoon feeding from the midfield.
But anyway, back to Owen being better than Shearer.
1 - Owen's got a better goal average for England than Shearer. He's already scored more goals for England than Shearer, correct?
2 - Owen can set up goals with the best of them. He created that Rooney one-on-one against Croatia that you all love so much, and Rooney's simple tap-in header. It was another little chip-cross that set up the Scholes goal. This is just Euro 2004. Watch Liverpool matches occasionally instead of crying after Darren Ambrose lofts another shot over the crossbar.
3 - What was the other point? Oh, yeah. Heading. I'm not denying Shearer can head the ball better than Owen. He's a big bloke, tall, and a powerful presence in the air. Mikey's just a little guy, he skips around people and runs past them, but he's not a guy who's going to win that many headers. We'll leave that to Cisse. It used to be Heskey's responsibility, but he was too busy falling over most of the time.
He hits absolute rockets, imagine Carlos but on target, and probably harder. I've seen him score some beauts, on in the champs league qualifier, and one for the under 20's against the US. HE hits them unbelievably hard. Perhaps his 19 set pieces rating is a bit stingey actually. Scored a fair few in the reseves its one of the reasons why i want him to break thrrough quickly, thats a reason why i was a bit annoyed that we signed a big name centre back rather than a fellow youngster.
Ever seen him take one?
