I was watching the build up for france vs greece (well done greece) when i saw a video replay of the beckham penalty against portugal in ultra slow motion. It clearly showed not only did a lump of turf fly off the ground, but the BALL MOVED! the ball rolle foward about 10cm before becks even kicked it. as beckham was about to strike, when his foot was about to strike the ball, it rolled! Thats why you cant blame him for the defeat or the england balls blame Urs meiers for disallowing campbells goal and for not changing ends in the shootout, because if the portugese went first, they would of skied it over. I smell something fishy about the portugese....

That was the only one he missed in qualifying. Scored 2 against Macedonia and Turkey. Both being high pressure pens as well. He just seems to have lost the plot during his time at Real.

Just noticed this

He should of put on Heskey to hold up the ball though.. we hardly held the ball up!
And we did so many long balls that went no where!

Actually, he was one of the first to know about it - as were the whole of the England squad. Portugal, however, did not know about it. Check your facts, mate.

Again - it did, actually.

I do agree that beckham is not a good penalty taker, he has missed 2/2 in this tournament, missed numerous noe's in qualifying (vs turkey, he balooned it over) and only just made the net against argentina!

Someone like owen, rooney or lampard should take our spotkicks, or even ashley cole as he looks calm and collective as he slotted gis penalty into the net.

Also, i want to question sven's subs. Firstly, phil neville. alright, fair enough subbing scholes, but why not bring on another defende to help our defence or a left winger such as dyer or an attacker such as cole rather than put someone in a holding role, and lets be honest, neville is no match for ronaldo, figo or deco.

Also, owen hargreaves, who cannot play football, qand donbt get me started on Heskey..........

As a ex-keeper i'd love to stand up for Ricardo but he only has himself to blame for that. He got himself in a bad position and Terry was well within in his right to stand there and go for the ball (watch the replays and try to tell me he didn't have eyes only for the ball) the fact Ricardo couldn't get to the ball and Sol nodded it in is no one elses fault but the keepers. The linesman who had a much better view didn't flag it so why it was disallowed i don't know, well i do but that's for the conspiracy theorists :-D

And Beckham couldn't hit the side of Old Trafford from 12 yards out (not the lower tier anyway), another crap penalty, everyone else had to take a shot from the same spot and no one else ballooned it over the bar like him, if he didn't prepare the ground before his penalty that's his fault, it's not like he didn't get a chance to look at the ground before he shot.

1. Beckham didnt know there was much wrong with the spot. Yes he would of seen a loose bit of turf, but still...

2. Rui costa got the chance to stamp on the spot as he knew the spot was fluffed up. Also, when rui costa took it a big lump of turf didnt fly out, nor did the ball roll foward.

3. Wakka, you know campbells goal was fine and you are one to talk as you support scotland and they didnt get through coz they lost 6-0 to the "no longer mighty" Dutch

I know it doesn't matter now and we're out, but when someone sticks up for the referee it makes me laugh.

Oh well, at least we qualified.

Beckham had more important things on his mind when taking the shot;

----
Becks buys Depp's pants

England captain David Beckham has forked out £1600 for a pair of Johnny Depp's pants.

Becks - who once admitted to wearing wife Victoria's knickers - bought the film actor's black smalls at a charity auction in Oxford.

Apparently he now has them displayed "proudly" in a frame in his bedroom. (Ed. umm why?)

What the hell does it matter now anyway....?

We lost, the decision went against us, we played poor, the ref should have stayed at home - all very true but none of it will change anything.

We are out, we need to get over it and look forward to the next World Cup.

You cannot keep dwelling on what could have been.
