I was watching the build up for france vs greece (well done greece) when i saw a video replay of the beckham penalty against portugal in ultra slow motion. It clearly showed not only did a lump of turf fly off the ground, but the BALL MOVED! the ball rolle foward about 10cm before becks even kicked it. as beckham was about to strike, when his foot was about to strike the ball, it rolled! Thats why you cant blame him for the defeat or the england balls blame Urs meiers for disallowing campbells goal and for not changing ends in the shootout, because if the portugese went first, they would of skied it over. I smell something fishy about the portugese....

Oh you utter retard. If you had been watching properly, it was because of Beckham's stance that the ball moved. The sand was level, but he puts his left boot so close to the ball that as he goes to strike it, the sand was pushed down under his boot, and the only place the excess had to go was under the ball. This caused it to rise slightly, and then rioll forward just before he struck it.

Indeed, everyone else had the same conditions to play with, but it was just because he put his foot so close to the ball that he moved for it.

Also, it cant be the ref's fault for not changing ends, cos it was the same at both bloody ends. Boths penalty spots had sand lining, so it wouldn't have made any difference.

It is Beckham's fault because Sven complained about the spot a week in advance. The team also trained there the day before, AND SPENT OVER TWO HOURS PRACTISING ON THAT VERY SPOT. So, seeing as the spot would have been in the same condition the day before, Beckham, and the others knew that there was sand. This should have caused Beckham to change his stance so that very thing didn't happen. But no, Beckham decides he'll risk it and he missed. Tough s**t. His fault.

I don't know why you're whining. I was as p!ssed off as everyone, because every 50/50 in the game went to them, but I'm over it now. We're out and none of these complaints are going to make any difference to that. We've ridden our luck so many times it's un-countable, and for once it just wasn't to be, Portugal were lucky that Sol's goal didn't stand, but aftetr that, it was inevitable we would lose. They were all over us, and it came as a huge surprise we equalised with Super's goal.

When it finally got to penalties, they won fair and square. They took their penalties well, we were poor. Even the ones we scored were poor, 3 down the middle, Ashley Cole's was about the only good one, but after his performance it wasn't surprising. Ricardo pulled off a good save, althgough the penaly was rather poor, and then finished it off with perhaps one of the best penalties I have ever seen. To stay so cool under pressure, and to slot the ball away like that, especially for a goalie, hats off to you Mr Ricardo.

You know what p!ssed me off most that night? No, no the goal being disallowed, no not every decision going against us, but helder fecking postiga. No as far as I'm concerned, his name doesn't even deserve capitals any more. Sure he was doing his job and it was a damn fine header, but to take a penalty as cheeky as that, phwoar, I for one won't be welcoming him at the Lane next year, especially as he scored as many for Portugal in one night, as he did for us he whole of last season.

Rant over, BLJ, get over it, you talk s**te

And it does indeed remain - the exact same happened with Rui Costa.
So you've no reason to complain.

Yes, you can actually see the ball does move afterall - and you can even see it "fall" off the penalty-spot when watching it again in 'real-time'! :o

But, so what? Who cares? It's all done with now. :P

There's nothing to definitley say he would've scored the goal had the ball not moved anyway. He was under great-enough pressure as it was, trying not to make it 3 misses in a row and all.

Er... I'm not calling Beckham perfect, but the ball did move and so I would call it a "pathetic" excuse. More of a "valid" one.

There was something wrong with the pitch, anyone with eyes and a tv showing the penalty shootout could see that but every player had to take a penalty from the same spot so yes it was another pathetic Beckham excuse.
