Of course Slipknot, and any other musicians (or at least, Slipknot would like to think they're musicians) for that matter, produce music to make money. Why does anyone produce anything? Whether it's music, film, books, videogames, food products, sexual pleasure... is to make money. That's like saying that Bill Gates created Microsoft and Windows solely so that he could have a decent operating system on his own computer. The fact that he's sold billions of copies of said operating system and has made more money than God is besides the point, of course.

Of course Slipknot, and any other musicians (or at least, Slipknot would like to think they're musicians) for that matter, produce music to make money. Why does anyone produce anything? Whether it's music, film, books, videogames, food products, sexual pleasure... is to make money. I have to say, usually when they come on a music channel or seomthing, i just chuckle at them for being so... funny, and change the channel.
However, i can find myself listening to the whole of their new song without cringing. Still. I won't be buying the album, 1) Because I'm not a huge fan of them, 2) I never buy anything, ever, although i don't download much stuff either.

Again. to be fair, saying "they're just about making money" and "they're not just about the money" is kinda pointless. You don't really know their motivation for making the music, and while it's easy to say 'ooh, if they were in it for the money they'd just make some crap pop music that sells well because it gets on top of the pops' it's equally easy to say that the pop market is saturated, and they have (along with other bands) vastly expanded the number of people who listen to 'alternative' music (even if it is only the 'alternative' music that MTV2 / Kerrang approve of)...

He's not making fun of me for liking them, he just percepts them wrong.
I'm not a huge fan of Slipknot myself but I certainly wouldn't make fun of you for liking them. I have the IOWA album myself but I don't really like it much, the only track I like is Left Behind. I like metal but Slipknot are just a little too crazy for my liking. I prefer bands like Linkin Park, Papa Roach, Rammstein and bands like that, also I recently discovered a new liking for hip-hop as well.
