I heard two people talking about this the other night, and was wondering what you guys thought. Is being gay in your DNA, or is it 'acquired' through your life?

So yeh, enlighten me...

until it can be proven though they don't want to believe it's genetic because there are too many people out there who'd classify it as a defect...they're the real f*****g wierdos.

I remember hearing people describe that they new they were different from the other kids when they were young, not in a sexual feeling sort of way.

Ah, but since its lying dormant, then could it not quite possibly be from birth? Good post, and far more constructive that the original two you posted, but my friends would have to disagree. :)

Seems like theres a huge amount of diference of opinion in this subject too.

Course they talk to me about it. I'm a mate and that's what mates do. They're there for their friends to talk to about anything. One of them said they just knew around puberty, two of them said they weren't sure for most of their teenage life and went between boys and girls before realising they were gay and one of them said they were in denial for so long that he can't even remember when he first thought he was gay and has been with girls for years. Until recently. All of them agree though that it's not decided at birth because we all agree that when you're just a kid you don't really have a sexual preference. You don't see 5 year olds falling in love now do you? I think we came to the conclusion that it had something to do with chemicals in the brain that lay dormant until puberty. It was not genetic from birth just something they developed at puberty just like many other bodilly changes that can't be predicted through genetics.

They talked to you about it? As you'll see from my post earlier, A couple I know have talked to me about it and could be considered gay from birth. Thay have almost always known it. Sort of answers the question.

[edit] fair do's, I see the point you were trying to make. You could have made it a little clearer thought.

The difference is I'm not claiming to know anything. However, having said that I'd bet I know a lot more than most of you considering I have 4 openly gay friends.

I've got gay friends. They knew they were gay from puberty. They have never fancied girls only boys. Just because you don't have the experience, don't assume others don't.

[edit] So that could be considered gay from birth.
