My girlfriend recently asked me why I cut myself. I replied

"Because I have knowledge of things I cannot change."

It's quite profound, but that is why I cut myself. To let out anger. I don't cut deep, but enough to bleed. I sent my qoute to a self-harm website, to use on there front page but they ignored it. Shame, I really think it can help people understand why they are harming (cutting, burning etc) themselves.

Hopefully someone will find it useful.

I once cut off my left leg just below the knee; it just felt 'wrong'.
I regret it now, but like others have said on the site - we all have our ways of dealing with the stresses of modern living

Well they're certainly interesting to try, naturally don't get addicted to them or anything but you know that.

'cutting myself is a fashion statement'

What an irresponsible statement, it happens to be true in most cases.

for those who asked about doctors telling the police.

Under most confidentiality rules everything is confidential unless the person is causing harm to themsleves or others. Its then a judgement call of the official involved if they will pass on the information.

Self harm is a coping method, some smoke some drink as a way of coping Indeed all these are form of self harm however minor they may seem. Dont we all know its doing damage to our bodies but we still do it. ( i smoke)

I'm always depressed, so much so that I'm going to ask parents if they'd mind me sort of medication. Yet of all my many thoughts I'm afraid I don't think self-harm would help. Emotional and physical pain? No thanks.
