It is my birthday soon and i dont know whether to get either one of these. I have been advised by people like Ant ( Top Bloke). Could anyone advise me.

Put it like this:

If you want really good quality film playback get the DVD. This is only worth it if you are a movie fan (big time), and have a decent TV, with great a sound system linked in.

If however, u don't mind films being at VHS level just get the PS2. Although the DVD playback is only just beyond VHS quality, this is still good enough for most, especially when u don't have a top TV/sound system- a norm DVD wouldn't make a diffenence.

In addition, ucan play games on the PS2! (Never realised). So u can play exclusives like MGS2 and ZOE (or whateve exclusives it does have).

I'd go for the PS2

I have decided to go for a ps2 because it has both of these features.

Dan iwas adviced by an anomanous tipster to avoid what you say.

PS2 for sure, best of both worlds then.
