Had a hearing test done today as part of my hospital regime, and all is not well. My one hearing ear is deteriorating quite rapidly. The norm in a good ear is a hearing range of about 20-20,000Hz, six weeks ago it was about 250-20,000Hz in my ear with background noise, today it was about 450-20,000Hz. I've lost a range of 200Hz in just 6 weeks! You can do the maths.

For anyone who wants a sort of off-set, a middle C on a piano is about 260Hz.

It's too risky to operate. Losing my hearing is the lesser of two evils. The condition is called cholesteatoma. Unfortunately it was past the stage of a curable operation by the time I was diagnosed.

So you can't hear middle C? Not at all?

Is it gonna get worse for definate? Might it just stop at a certain level?

I know normal hearing deteriorates as we get older, what is the normal rate of hearing loss?

Is there no opperation or anything?

In about 10 years, yes.

Not a thing, hearing aids are no good to me because I'm losing my conductive hearing as well.
