A few mixed emotions with Nintendo at the moment:

The Good:

A: Nintendo DS sells out in Europe, 500,000 consoles shipped!
B: PSP sales are down in Japan with new DS colours defeating them, PSP only selling half its shipment in America.
C: Resident Evil 4 charts at a respectible Number 5.

The Bad:

A: Worst march ever in America for Nintendo, hardware sales and software sales down. Due to stiff competiton.
B: Resident Evil 4 would have charted higher if Nintendo had decided to supply enough games. Selling out very quickly and then not renewing the demand! Dropped to number 19 in a week and then dropped out the charts, wouldn't have happened if Nintendo supplied the demand.
C: Exact same problem with the DS, Wario Ware Touched! STILL missing from most major retailers with Mario 64 DS just coming back into stock. DS is still selling out in places. Both a good AND bad thing.

So mixed emotions.

Oh and maybe, just maybe... I was right:

"I was wrong and apologise for it" would have been fine.

I bet that they just shift the D pad to the right side of the controller and be done with it.

I've just come back from America and I did notice quite lacksture support for the GC in the various shops.

Worser then here, maybe one cabinet devoted to the 'top 10' games?

+ the console was priced at like $100.

GC America doesn't look too good.

1) Probably because Prince Of Persia 2 sucked big hairy tedious man ass.
2) No microphone. Nononononono. I hate this whole voice-recognition thing with an eternally-embarrassed passion. Perhaps Japanese weirdos like shouting into hole, but I don't. And it sucks for controlling anything.

Someone explain to me how this gyro controller would work ...

If Ninty make the touch-screen controller, they need to do something fantastically funky with magnets or something and make the buttons rise up out of the pad and fall away invisibly when no longer needed. Amazing.

I know why - because X-Men was on the other night. And they've got that map of the Statue of Liberty that springs up out of nothing. Amazingly funky. Must be done.

Nintendo consoles have usually sold a lot at launch and then died down, this is because a lot of the better titles aren't out yet.

Nintendo never seem to nail that.

5 killer Nintendo games at the next console launch would definately help.

He has a valid point, and as such should be answered appropriately. It is too soon to say whether it is a novelty or not.

The problem with that is Apple, even before iPod, had worldwide recognition as a customer friendly company, stylish and branded for "ordinary" people. Couple this with the HD based portable music storage, it was the right combination for mass success.

Nintendo's comapny image is known for kiddy games. They're well known, but they've continually had that image for years. The Gamecube design did not help at all. While people who wanted music on the go wanted their devices to be stylish, portable and stuffed full of music, the console games audience, whose average consumer age is rising all the time, will not want a company like Nintendo associated with it, especially with more "cooler" alternatives. Look at Sony - decades of recognition as a hi-tech consumer hardware supplier - TVs, Walkmans, mobiles - more people can relate to Sony products than Nintendo.

Same with MS, but they in turn have software on their side. Everyday the same people who use those products play video games - familiarity with a brand or company name is vital.

Hmm, while it is interesting to see them *try* taking the indsutry "by storm" (iPod coloured DSs, heh), the DS sales peaked at the worst possible time - at launch. While landmark consoles like the PS, NES and GameBoy steadily rose over time, DS sales have seen no such revival since launch date. Merely that interest has faltered. I do hope Nintendo can keep banging out killer title after killer title for the Revolution; but if they follow DS policy as it is, they're not going to stand a chance against the other two, funky controllers or not.

Personally I feel that this idea will alienate the casual gamer.

Having original games is a great idea but taking a massive chance with the hardware like this is asking for trouble.

When it comes to home console hardware you need to conform a fair bit with the pack.

I expect the japanese will lap it up but the first impression most western gamers will be 'WTF!?' and if they can get past that and play it then they might be pleasantly surprised.

Personally I like complication and the more things are dumbed-down the less I want to play them.

How can you actually say that?
In 2 years you can comment on whether it was a novelty or not.

You can't say "novelties wear off, so the DS isn't one because it will become stronger", because, erm, you have no evidence or reason to prove that it "will" do anything. Your comment makes no sense.
