Right, a number of things affect the speed of CPUs but the mos common one is total MHz (or GHz which is 1000MHz=1GHz). Even so AMD use a P rating to show the speed of there CPUs, which is how fast it is in MHz comparitably to Intels. For example:
AMD XP 2600+ is as fast as a P4 2600MHz even though its MHz is 1800 (I think). This is because it has othe parts which run faster than Intel CPUs. If you are encoding anyhting the MHz extra on a P4 will make a difference, but in any other situtation AMD are as fast as Intels.
