The report tells me that I probably won't see an increase in speed (from 1.5 to 1.5!) but I wondered if there are any other benefits/cons to upgrading?
My Router supports ADSL2+ as well, so that won't be a problem, but I know from earlier tests (thanks to Hmmm...) that my line isn't always the most stable, being far from the exchange and having quite a bad noise issue in the past.

I've asked before (some time back) but I'm not sure if you replied.
Have you got a modern BT Master Socket?
If you have what does your attenuation show when plugged into the TEST socket (behind the removable faceplate)?

Hopefully Freeola can do some type of deal to package a mobile offering with their land line deals?
Quite a few people could be interested in that I would imagine.
But I understand partnering with the mobile boys isn't easy...

Ok - here's the BT one for you!
[s]Hmmm...[/s] Quoted figures on several websites give 1Mbps for ADSL and 1.5 for ADSL2+
As the government is pushing the minimum 2Mb requirement then is seems to people a long way from the exchange are unlikely to get anything better for a good while yet. That is of course unless the mobile networks decide they can justify upgrading the masts in the countryside to support 3G or even better LTE in the future and then mobile broadband could be faster than land line speeds.
Love Sam to be honest though, but didn't notice this.

Sam Knows
Also some useful 'exchange tools' on this site... :¬)
[s]Hmmm...[/s] I had actually not heard about BT's plans there so whoopee. (Even though I'm actually about 4 metres from the exchange, and by that i mean my cable length is less than 100 metres)
You got a source that you can share?
Coincidentally our exchange is listed as being upgraded by the 30th September. So here's hoping.
As ButchML says - some people are having problems with ADSL2+.
I think some of the issues have recently been resolved/identified but from what I've read, if you are on a long line like you then the higher frequencies (used by ADSL2+) may increase your line's attenuation and make things less stable.
Some people are saying the decision point is somewhere around 50db attenuation on ADSL. Higher than that and you may not get any/much benefit (pure rumour).
Having said that, If Freeola are confident they can move you back without too much trouble if things don't work out then perhaps it is still worth a try?
How far are you roughly by road to your exchange?
I think you've said in the past your line's attenuation was 60db (that's long).
For the future BT have started to roll out FTTC (fibre to the cabinet) to improve things. So rather than dig up all the streets they are running fibre from the exchange to the green street cabinets, so bringing the 'kit' closer to you and improving speeds.
But you need to be lucky for your exchange to be picked.
