Here's a thought. What do you think it is that attracts certain people to forums, and do you think we could find a link in certain characteristics that most forum-goers (is there a proper word for us people?!!) have, like we can all be a bit argumentative at times, all enjoy talking, all enjoy the English language, therefore, writing, etc. Any certain personality traits?

I started to think about this because most people I know say they don't go on forums. Now they could all be lying, because they're scared I might ask which one and then go on and discover all their secrets, or because they might think it's sad. But I mean I'm interested to know what percentage of people go on forums, and if we are a certain 'type' of person in any respects.

I'm expecting lots of abuse now, with comments like 'you can't categorise people into one type, etc.' but that's not what I mean, just what the common factors are between us. Something someone said about there being a lot of insomniacs on forums got me thinking.

What did you do? Actually try to provide that weird thing we know as “justice”?

You missed out the sentence that begins 'And my specialist subject is...'. Fess up, you coward!

Well...long story, but the basic gist of it is that I treated my clients as human beings for whom their divorce or criminal case was the most important thing to them in the world. In other words, I empathised with them. Then I kicked off at my firms tendency to drag out divorce cases to get more money. As well our alarming over-reliance on defending kiddy fiddlers. And, truth be told, I went rather peculiar for a while as I started complaining bitterly that I "wasn't serving justice, I was just there to make money out of misery". At which point I quit, my ex-boss reported me to the law society (he wanted to ensure I didn't get another job in law...), and they threw me out for three years for "not being of the correct mindset to be a solicitor". Which is one of the greatest compliments I've ever received.

Oh, and specialist subject is gonna have to be Star Wars. However, there is a lot of geekery to choose from in my case...

Hmmm, sounds a bit like Devils Advocate (the film)

I simply enjoy posting letters but as I am banned from every postbox in the
country, I make do with this site.

I came here for the free games, but stayed despite rarely trying to win them.

Why these particular forums? They're not too cluttered by pictures and signatures, so are clean and load quickly.

Why any forums? Everyone likes to talk, to discuss stuff. And it tends to be about things you don't speak to your friends about.
I don't post much in the games bits of the site now, but I don't play much any more either.
I post in the life forum , usually about things I don't discuss much with friends.
You get a different perspective on it though too - you have all the time you want to think things over before posting, so the topics can go deeper than normal conversation.

I post on a couple of 8-ball forums too, for pretty much the same reasons.
I might go play in a tournament this weekend - a big national one. I missed the county trials this year (the first year I wanted to attend), so this'll be my first real chance to see how good I am against talented opposition playing their best :^)

I posted here when I started my last job because it was dull.
I continued to post for almost 4 years and then, leaving my job, I've lost interest in chatting to a website that, this area excluded, comprised of teenagers wanting to discuss how they almost touched a boob and how many bottles of hooch they drank in the park.

Plus, this place reminds me why I'm best.

I'm not really sure why I came here. I play games about once every three months and I've never even considered trying to win a GAD.

I stay for the people. Or, at least, some of them.

Maybe it's the raw sexual magnatism we all have towards the people around us? *slicks back hair and goes out on a night on the town*

I love the internet - it's like an interactive form of TV - and seeing as I'm a part-time web designer, I get to make things for people and I normally get a good response. That gives me a bit of a buzz. Seriously though, me and Snuggly go way back, and this just gives me another method of insulting him and he has to be "professional" about it!
