My sound has now not been working for ages and ages, and I do not have a clue why.

Everythign is plugged in correctly, etc but under control panel > Sounds and Audio Devices, it still says 'No Audio Device'.

When I try to play something in Windows Media Player, again it says ' Cannot play back the audio stream, no audio hardware is available, or the hardware is not responding'.

Please please please does anyone know what's wrong, because I NEED my music???

Thanks in Advance

You can use Xp's WDM drivers, but if you have, say, a Creative Audigy 2 or something similar, to get best performance use the manufacturer's drivers.

XP has the drivers for most common sound cards, but you have to 'find' the hardware first, at which time it will ask for your XP disk

just delete any drivers associated with your sound, by going into the system devices menu, clicking on them and pressing delete. now, either reboot your machine or click 'search for new hardware' and it will search for your sound card. It should have the drivers you require either already on the machine, or on your windows XP disk. re-install them.

failing that you will need to download them from the sound card manufacturers official site.

to find out what card it is - it may be written on the card itself, take the cover off and have a look. you should have received the drivers when you bought the computer or card though.
