The "General Games Chat" forum, which includes Retro Game Reviews, has been archived and is now read-only. You cannot post here or create a new thread or review on this forum.
Over the coming weeks we are upgrading our search engine. It's having a triple destructurisation operation and invisible lurking terms enhancements.
The prize will go to the person who finds the MOST VALID PROBLEMS across our WHOLE PRODUCT RANGE in the SEARCH FACILITY.
If you think you should be able to search on "Horror Movies", but nothing comes up, then add it to your list.
If you think people will mis-spell gran turismo, then add that too - but test it first.
Use short lists if possible but multiple posts will count together. i.e. all your posts on this subject will add up and count towards the prize.
Closes 9 am on April 1st, 2001.
I recommend you read the details of our searching process which you can click to from a link at Site Map. Basically we use the start of a word, so a search on "thunder" will find "thunderball". If several words are combined it must find all.
I think certain products should have relevant words associated with them automatically, rather than just hoping that the words will be in the product description.
e.g. If I were to type in 'zelda guide' I get a list of zelda guides. If I type in 'zelda game' I don't get any zelda games back, as none have the word 'game' in their description.
Is there any way so search for games under a certain price, or released before a certain date? That would be useful.
GBA returns nothing too, though I think someone already mentioned that.

Aye... it is a good search engine... but still fairly olde worlde.... not as much so as Yahoo... but not cutting edge...
Or perhaps keep a simple boolean search engine for names of games etc like it is now and next to it put a link to 'advanced search' which will take the user to a separate page where they can use sections like 'games company', 'price range' or 'film genre' (perhaps from a drop down box) I think searching by price range would highlight all of your many bargain games and DVDs for those people on a budget and could prove quite popular.

I said that....and I do agree, some sort of advanced search engine that can pick out the right games!

Jeeves....Intelligent...yeah right.
Personally, I favour altavista, as it covers more of the web than any of its rivals (still only 20% though) and it's quite good once you figure out how to use the +, - and " symbols to best effect.

Do you mean an intelligent search engine (like Jeves)...
Or a search where you could type in EA and get a list of their titles?
That would be useful
