So the machines are farming humans for the energy right?
Ok, Neo and Trinity fly above the cloud layer, and its bright and sunny.
Are the machines so naff that they can't build structures above this cloud layer and use solar energy? I mean, Its only a couple of 100 feet from the ground.
BAH! STUPID FILM! >:( >:(

I'm fairly sure that its young, as Neo nearly pops in the first one.
Aha! Found it.
MORPHEUS
As children, we do not separate
the possible from the impossible
which is why the younger a mind is
the easier it is to free while a
mind like yours can be very
difficult.
Yep, Older ones are more difficult.

Bwhahahahaha. Yep. Well put!

Nah, you must have dialled the wrong number. You give them a call, they send you a bunch of pamphlets and two pills, one red, one blue. Take whichever you want.
There is also the option to have a DVD sent which explains life in the 'real world' but that costs a few quid.

I think the humans and machines will collaborate on a giant vacuum cleaner to suck away the black clouds.

Neo and Trinity certainly do not fly 31 miles above the ground in the movie.
31 miles is a figure you have came up with.
I put it to the creators that they have almost ruined the entire concept of the movies but simply wanting a cool shot.
No.
You don't know how high they went, you don't know how high the scorch peaks at and you don't know how advanced the architectural abilities of the machines is supposed to be.
Therefore the assumption that they would be able to build something able to take advantage of solar power is a little silly. Plus, it should also be noted that, when the skies were scorched, the machines were waging a war against humanity, and stopping that to build an unfeasibly huge structure to gain an alternative power source would have been something of a military error. Instead they found a more readily available and renewable source of power and exploited it.

A white gunk that tastes like "Tasty Wheat".

Jesus, taking this seriously aren’t you?
I think it’s a silly plot hole. Simple as that.
You aint gonna change my opinion.
