One thing i had noticed is that there is little discussion about books on here, we review film and games but i have rarely seen anyone do anything about books, which i used to be fine with. I had never really had any interest in books, but while i was on holiday i found myself getting a book and going through it very quickly.
So now i am trying to get more books i will enjoy and find out authors who i like. But not many people i know are big book fans, so i was thinking we should have this forum to discuss briefly any books you have read and think others might enjoy based on what they have said they enjoy.
For example; I like fictional books and probably push even further to fantasy (like RPG's lol) but am happy to try new things. I really liked the Lord of the Rings books and am looking for things like that. I was reading a book from Anne Mcaffrey, a series of books about a Fantasy world called Pern (some of you may know about it)

Anyway I enjoy reading, I read a hell of a lot. I'm more into fantasy style, epic story based.
Some of my favourite authors are David Eddings (and to a lesser degree his wife), Robert Jordan and for more of a twist Orson Scott Card.
I have read literally hundreds of fantasy novels, and bridged the sci-fi gap occasionally.
The reason I did not list Tolkien by the way, is because although the books are legnedary, probably the most successful of any book infact, I do not really love his writing style.
This is becaused it is aged, he wrote in a time much before most of the stuff I read. Wheras I had no problem reading it (I was 12 when reading The Hobbit, and 15-18 for Lord of the Rings and all the back books) I just could not say I enjoyed the writing style.

The Wasp Factory - Iain Banks
Wonderland Avenue - Danny Sugarman
Iain Banks also has masses of sci-fi books available as well as 'standard' fiction under the name of iain m banks.

So can you think of any good fantasy series that i could start getting into? I will check out the author on some websites. Really trying to find good series, like my girlfriend has loads she reads and loves.
But good to know i have other readers who enjoy the fantasy genre. And being a noob to books, my applogies if i am ignorrant to anything!

Look at the Belgariad Series by David Eddings
The first book is called "The Pawn of Prophecy"

There are 11 and the next one comes out this September (just finished reading this without realising the author had died >_<) The next book will be finished using R.Jordans notes and the other 2 will be completely written using his notes.
Shame really as I really love this series.

Ah, I stopped reading at Crossroads of Twilight, didnt realise the next one hadnt come out yet. Maybe a new author helps though. The later books drifted quite a bit in my opinion which is why I got bored of them. Well that and me decided I wasnt going to read series that werent finished yet.
EDIT: as an aside, I notice you like to bold the XXX wrote. Maybe you could suggest that as the default when replying as it does improve readability a bit.

Yeah they did drift, even to the point where I was like....just get on with it!....but on the other hand it gives you rare insight into the world from all angles, and at all times. Hopefully Sanderson will tone that down a bit (and hopefully speed the flow up)

Thanks for all the suggestions so far - the Belagraid (not sure on spelling lol) looks like it could be good to read. Think ill pick up the first one and go from there.
I mentioned the Pern books and i realy enjoyed reading Dragon Harper - i might try the others but they are not in a series (i dont believe they are, they are seperate adventures in the world)
Has anyone else read any of these??
