Hi,

I have done several speedtests since midday today and I have not got over 2.6mb/s.

My last results a minute ago from bt speed tester were:

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
Your DSL connection rate: 13789 kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 1152 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 11000 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1586 kbps

My current router stats are:

IP 11000k
Data Rate: 13790 1153
Noise M 12 5
Ooutput Power 125 203
Att 37 14

I appreciate ALT kicks in sometimes, but this looks like a fault.

Are there any server issues currently?

I'm afraid I didn't. Can't really do a speed test here without kicking lots of people off the net!

Yep - that's similar to what I'm seeing.
Always better when the node usage is low though.

It's the load balancing that seems to be lacking.

Right now my node is at 90% with the ALT off - but I'm only seeing around 900kbps using a non-official speedtester (you can only use BT's once every 3 hours).

So it seems that how the ALT is documented as working is not how it currently works.

It also used to limit people to 2Mb minimum (1Mb was introduced during Wimbledon last year) but that's not how I'm seeing it work these days.

Makes no sense Hmmm, some results from today seem to contradict yesterday's speedtest results ie

07.56am

ALT OFF Load 67%

Download speedachieved during the test was - 6611 Kbps

12.14pm

ALT ACTIVE & STABLE Load 94%

Download speedachieved during the test was - 5451 Kbps

Haphazard to say the least :-)

Not good DL - that's a lovely line you're on there as well! I'd swap with you :¬)

Eccles - did you take a look at the performance yesterday when I mentioned it - see previous posts.

A simple non-BT speedtest is running between 400-1200 on Faraday at the moment (on my 3500 Profile line)...

Thanks Hmmm, but saw it after I had posted :-D

Checked Enta a few moments ago and Birmingham node ALT is stable and active. Load was 91%

At 9am, ALT was off and load was 68%

You may be right about the load affecting the ALT

SpeedTest at 13.04 today:

Download speedachieved during the test was - 1722 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :8128 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 7150 Kbps

Speedachieved at 9am was 6568Kbps

Just to add to that - my line has been running nice and clean error wise today - just 1 CRC and 1 HEC. So that shows it's not my line being swamped with errors.

To me is looks as if once the node gets busy the ALT kicks in and things don't recover until the node goes below 80% (guessing) even though the ALT displays as off.

That's good - do a BT test or normal speed test now!
(obviously you'll have to get any users to stop any internet activity!)

5 mins ago I did my second test of the day:

ALT='showing' as OFF Faraday @ 88%

Download speedachieved during the test was - 748 Kbps
Your DSL Connection Rate :4512 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 3500 Kbps

First thing this morning I got 3269 Kbps

A simple speedtest shows bursts of traffic all over the shop - even though the ALT shows as off?

Hi Eccles, have been doing the tests today as promised from my sick bed :-( However, just tried to access my emails and got the following error:

Account: '*********', Server: 'mail.freeola.net', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR AVG POP3 Proxy Server: Cannot connect to the mail server!', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC90

Is this me or is it Freeola servers?
