There is always a chance of course, that one of the teams will have aced the new regs and have it all tied up by mid-summer, making it the dullest season for years.
I think you need to add Kubica to your list - he was leading the championship last summer before BMW decided to concentrate on this seasons car. Also, BMW have delivered on all their milestones since they've been a team owner. Plus MArio Theisson has come out and said that they'll be fighting for the title - he's not one to over-hype things either so he must be confident.
On a different note, Toyota have basically said that if they don't win this season, they'll be leaving F1: Click

No, you have a valid point. In F1 it's as much about the spectacle as anything, for fans and for the all important sponsors. They want the car to look nice so people associate it with their adverts plastered all over it.
Anyway, aside from the asthetics, I think Alonso now has a chance to run for World Champion again with things levelled out a bit more. Will be interesting to see 2009 as we have so many drivers who are ready to win the Championship:
Massa - Lost by a whisker and wants to prove himself
Hamilton - Wants to prove he can win again to show it wasn't a fluke at the end of the last race.
Alonso - Not being picked up by Ferrari, he wants to show them he can win without them and also for his Renault team.
Raikkonen - Wants to prove to Ferrari that he can still do it after a poor year last year.
Vettel - An outside chance given the car, but the new boy is keen and certainly has the talent.
The Williams looks good, clean and simple. I just hope it's fast too.
i really dont like the new designs at the moment though this ferrari 2020 concept f1 car looks great
