Ever wonder why all the shots taken of things like this (Nessie, Bigfoot etc.) always seem to have been shot on potatocam?

Perhaps because if the photo HAD been clear (i.e. not taken on a mobile phone by someone who can't keep their chip- greased thumb off the lens) everyone would have gone "Oh, it's a cat..." or "Look at that idiot in a monkey suit..."

I am currently practicing shaking my camera just enough to turn street lights into "UFO's"...

Really? In Essex (at least our little bit) we have had Jamaican like weather for the last 3 weeks (the last 2 days excluded).

Yep Welsh summer has been total garbage. If someone had released a lion around here then there really would have been no reason to launch an armed police search as I reckon it would have probably drowned!

When did this 'dry weather' happen? To the best of my knowledge it hasn't stopped tanking it down since about March. Perhaps this torrential rain actually washed away any evidence left behind by this mythical beast? :P

Morning,

Speaking of rain, we had a massive thunder storm here over night. Couldn't sleep as the dogs were barking and the thunder was pretty loud.

The news here reported all the rain, unusual for this time of year, and my wife accused me of bringing it with me :)

It put pay to our plans to go out this morning too, but hopefully it'll be dry enough this afternoon to go to the shops for my daughter's birthday (there's a big out-of-town Toys-r-us which we need to catch 2 buses to get to)

The dry weather would cause very little in the way of physical tracks

Well, we got out of the house this afternoon. We went to a funeral.

Morning all.

It's pretty annoying being in a hot country and passing people's houses that have swimming pools and sun loungers or walking up the nearby hills and being able to see the sea but not being near enough to walk to it because of young kids who can't do the hour's trek over the hill.

So I'm just sat inside with a dodgy old fan to keep me cool, going out at 7am each morning to take the dogs for a walk over the fields and taking the kids to the park in the afternoon. Part of me thinks I should have stayed at home!

Is something vexing thee pb?

Couldn't you borrow a donkey and cart? Or make a 'day trip' of it for the kids ... a little country hike/picnic to the seaside? Or buy a paddling pool perhaps?

The point being, you take all sense of cynacism away and it could still be true.

I'm not saying it's likely, just possible.

With the amount of organised crime that undoubtedly goes on in England (with a lot of it reported to be London/Essex side), one of these russian mobsters (i just like including rushmobs in my stories) has the means to get a pet lion and then decides pffff screw it when it gets loose.

The dry weather would cause very little in the way of physical tracks, and there is not enough brush to find obvious 'trail' markings.

Lack of natural game could explain there being no waste evidence (possibly underfed at the home/holding cage)/leftovers from feeding.

Not saying I believe any of that, but... you know.

However, there could actually be some truth in this and while some may mock it could actually be Amity Island 1975 about to happen for real.....?

Believe me, if MY cat got out of the house, there'd be rumours of an "Essex Panther"...

He puts his front paws over my shoulder, and his tail hangs down to my knees, so I don't find it unusual for someone to make a mistake like that, especially with the way people exaggerate matters.

Besides, it's all "good, news- worthy" stuff!:-)

@Essex Lion: It could be true you know. I know we like to be cynical regarding the police, but they wouldn't just call out all that force over a non-sensical rumour.

Yeah, why the hell would the any police force authorise a wild goose chase over a Bank Holiday weekend where anyone called in would be on quadruple time with a month off in lieu? :P

Anyone wanting to be very cynical could ask who has really benefited most from this?, the people who have sold stories of these sightings to the tabloids or the Essex tourist industry who I presume had been enduring a wretched summer due the effects of the recession & the non-event that was the British Summer of 2012. Now loons from all over the country have apparently been flocking down to the St. Osyth area hoping to get a glimpse of this beast.

What I find really difficult to believe though is that someone honestly managed to mistake this for the king of the jungle.

However, there could actually be some truth in this and while some may mock it could actually be Amity Island 1975 about to happen for real.....?
