No, fortunately! Thomas Cook has recorded record profits in the last financial year, so redundancies in normal roles look very unlikely at least until the next financial year. Lucy's redundancy came about because the decided to combine two our 'brands':- Thomas Cook Tour Operations (formerly JMC Holidays) and Thomas Cook Signature (formerly 'Accoladia', which was a joint venture between TC and British Airways, that BA pulled out of about 3 years ago. TCTO have traditionally provided for the cheaper to mid-price range 'mass-market' holidays, whereas Signature was more of a 'prestige' brand aimed at those with more money. The only problem is, both 'brands' had their own staff, completely seperate, duplicating functions like HR, Publishing, Marketing, IT and Support Services (Lucy's area). It also proved very confusing for our customers, because both brands fly to the same destinations and the average Joe can't make the distinction between a mid-range holiday and a prestige one, all they're bothered about is destination. Hence they'd ring up the wrong brand, get frustrated and probably book with a rival. So they combined the two, hence the redundacies.
Fortuantely I work in a central role, which, in theory, provides a service to all of our brands, which none of have their own capability to do. So my job should never be at risk of being 'merged out', but I do face the same threats as anyone else in an office job today, downsizing, outsourcing etc...
