You know what it's like when you're young, "A pension? Balls to that, taht's my effing beer money!"

Now I'm a little wiser, so I'll happily keep it running :)

Yep, I was going to join our works pension scheme this year. You can only enrol in May, or if you're a new starter and I had a lot of debts to pay off when I first started, so this year was definetly going to be the year I got my pension sorted. Only, Lucy's redundancy now means it'll be on hold until next year.

Yep. Her current job has defiently gone to Bradford as they are keeping the Tour Ops support services team. They've won awards, blah blah...

She wants out completely. She's lost faith in Thomas Cook and sees this as a real slap in the face and doesn't trust them to not do it again if she moves into a new role or her old role, if offered.

Well at the moment, we're firing off CVs to all the big employers in the region. Sounds like a bit of a hit-and-miss tactic I know, but that's how I got my current job, when I didn't actually know what I wanted to do and I actually quite like it. Somethimes an employer can pick up a CV and make a connection between your skills and a vacancy which you hadn't even considered.

She's also registering with job web-sites and employment agencies and will going down the Job Centre at weekends. She's also going to be joining me as a steward at Peterborough United, not much money, but every penny counts at the moment.

I have a pension scheme, although if I had the choice, I wouldn't have gone for it. They just stuck me on it and I left it running.

Wow that's a lot of money each year and to think I earnt more than half that in 2 weeks work at university *laughs*

You mean you're still paying back your student loan? Well I guess there's no hurry to pay if all off and you're not in the position to do that now anyway.

Young people really need to get smart about their futures and savings. I'd be suprised if anyone here has some sort of pension scheme, people seem to leave it so late.

So it's for sure that they will all lose their jobs or be moved elsewhere in the company, so there's no chance of her keeping her job? How does she feel about it though, from what you said she's been tehre along time and I remember her wanting to get a new job or was it the one you've just mention about her applying for a more challenging position. Sounds really stressful at the moment, so what are your likely options then? I guess giving up sky, broadband and the gym memberships. Unless you can borrow money. Whether 2 months is enough for her to find a new job I'm not sure, I havent applied for a job in 9 years, they want you to just take any job you're capable of doing and not finding a job you'd like. Probably why I decided to become self employed.
