Radio was the only 'instant' source of information we had back then and then TV coverage followed later ... in black and white of course.

I finally watched the event of Kennedy's assassination on a TV like this ... but that was after the event! Radio was first to report the event.

Yes, I meant the world would hear it broadcast via radio, but in the U.S. the cameras were already rolling. I just meant that even by radio it was a major event and I would imagine other less major stuff wouldn't be so quickly reported back then.

I heard it on the car radio about 5 miles into the journey to Luton ... would be about 2.05pm UK time.

When I arrived, I rang my employer and my wife on my Motorola 'brick' and told them to switch on the TV ... they then realised what had happened ... it was 'live' by then.

Kennedy's assassination was known about immediately because his car was being filmed already, people were lining the streets and news reporters were there already, so it's one of those huge events where everything was already set up to broadcast the news.

But, yes, I guess radio was (and still is) one of the first to broadcast news stories and the internet is always first coming up with the conspiracy stories about them!

I was at a pub in Glasgow for lunch when I saw the news. Pie, beans, chips and a pint for £2 but we spent all of the time watching the news. Horrific scenes.

Perhaps should clarify this is the Twin Towers and not Kennedy.

Afternoon all ...

Can't believe it was 14 years ago today that the Twin Towers were hit. Doesn't time fly ...

... because it was such a major global incident, I can remember exactly what I was doing that day, just like when President Kennedy was shot!

On the day of "9/11" I was involved with air crew ... I worked, at that time, transporting air crew for Safair and DHL between airports and their UK hub.

On that day I was driving to collect a Safair crew from Luton to return them to their East Midlands Hub. On collecting them, ironically from the cargo area of Luton Airport called World's End, shock and disbelief were the main topics of conversation.

I was in the bath when Kennedy was shot!

I wasn't born when Kennedy was shot but I remember seeing the news of john Lennon's murder in the morning before school, as he was shot and died in the evening US time.

Of course, until recently you wouldn't know for some time about most events and it would be unusual to interrupt a programme for news unless it was a really major event. Now with the Internet, instant reporting etc you get to hear about these things much quicker. I was at work during the 9/11 disaster and we had lots of clients we worked with in offices in the towers so it was pretty shocking.

It was a spider emergency in our house this morning. I'm left to presume the cats dealt with it but without any remains to back up my claim, my wife is not convinced.

And then I had to remove a 2 inch long rusty nail from the collar of the cat along the road. She has a magnet on her collar for her cat flap but clearly it has some disadvantages.

Morning.

It's already been one of those mornings. Drafted in to walk down with my eldest to school and asked to take the dog with me as well, then have to make it back in time to take the youngest to school, all before breakfast. Now catching up on work.

I've spent many a session with an audiologist but never had the pleasure of opticians since I've never needed glasses. In my defence, this is the first I've ever heard about the need for eye examinations. Why is this not recommended? I get prompts to get my flu jab since I have asthma so why do people who don't tend to go to opticians not prompted to get their eyes checked?
