Luna(r)cy was discredited as a theory long ago.

How the planets allign at the moment of your birth has little relevance once that moment is passed. After that point it's the same conditions for everyone.[/i]

There are small definable changes such as hyperactivity that have been found to be affected by gravitational forces. In fact, I believe there was some research on astronauts who have come back from the space station and their behaviour. Lunacy isn't what I was talking about, though.

Agreed, when you are born the planets might affect your behaviour at that moment and that of the mother (as found in studies of rats) but current forces may affect current state.

I thought it was heavily tied in to seasonal changes myself. But not really my opinion as such, don't know enough.

And the original astrologers stated there were actually 50 signs by the way, so doubt it was calender based until the 18 sign version "came out". That was later defined to the 12 sign version currently used.

Complicated for something that doesn't seem that relevant to the majority ;)

Technically it's based on the star sign which is in a certain area when you were born, if you wan to look at 'proper' astromony the 12 month calendar isn't accurate for anything. However, since the Romans devised the current system with the 12 month calendar (which they also devised) they chopped out the 13th sign and assigned the rest to the months. They were used in conjunction with personal star signs to determine fate dependent on where your sign was in conjunction with others, the planets and with the current sign.

There is some truth in it, if you really take the boiled down fact that it's all to do with where the planets are, as the Earth's gravitational pull is affected by the Moon and gravity is effected to a lesser extent, but still measurable, by other planets. Given that we humans are affected by this gravitational shift physically and mentally it's not much of a leap to assume there is some way of working out to what extent this might affect us and if there are differences in behaviour based on the Earth's condition when you were born and the condition now.

However, that's a far cry from the Russell Grants of this world and their hokum predictions based on nothing more than picking ideas out of the sky (in a less literal sense).

Seems fair. I looked at the "proposed" list and my date falls under it (seeing as I think we share birthdays, or similar).

I'm not sure who governs the star signs but have they now officially said they recognise it then?

And I agree, it holds only a vague interest for me. But it's something to discuss none the less.
