pb - are you sure the GAME -> Gamestation transition wasn't just a refurbishment, since they are both owned by GAME?
WHSmiths has, as far as I recall, completely stopped trading in video games, at least. Remember reading some sort of statement on how it could not remain competitive in the market so chose to withdraw.
Supermarkets can be surprising in their dealings with video games, but that's partly because they're likely to make up the profits elsewhere if they run a video game as a loss leader. And most of the time they can sell all other games at an overinflated price to snatch on that "Mummy I want it now" that you get from children.
I think that the online and high street chains both serve a purpose in the gaming world, as well as digital distribution, but I'd dread to think that we'll lose one or the other (or both in favour of digital distribution, eugh).
It's complicated because although they're still owned by the same head company, they have different management structures. They also have different rules (eg Gamestation price match against anyone nearby and GAME doesn't).
I do like digital distribution, especially when I can get fairly recent games on Steam for under £5, but for consoles I worry about what happens if you get the next generation? Will they still keep it all on their server and will they even give you the option?

The problem with PC games is that they lose their price so quickly and there is the issue of codes and DRM so it gets harder to guarantee a game will work on another PC once used.
The price is extremely low to start with ... compared to a 'console' version ... so no arguement there pb ;¬)
Plus Steam prices...
Steam prices are extremely high and ones that I don't subscribe to for many reasons ... ;¬)

And yes, bargins to be had at Morrisons at the moment (for PC games only)[/i]

Remembered a few other old entertainment/video game stores:
MVC (I think it was called)
Dixons. Though I think that's turned into Curry's Digital.
I used to always get HMV and Virgin/Zavvi mixed up when I was youger. Specially in the old Bristol Mall when they used to be closer together.
Started playing Uncharted today, but will be spending tonight as part of a online mystery muder roleplay. Have fun in Newcastle CheekyLee!
To me "Wilkinson" look pretty similar to Woolies - and they seem to be making a go of things!
[s]Hmmm...[/s]Even going so far as to take over the store once held by Woolies in Exeter...
Only been in there once, but it does seem very similar in what they sell, though it feels slightly like a discount version of Woolies.
