Apparently Madonna wants to adopt an African baby and her husband isn't too keen on the idea. Angelina Jolie seems to enjoy collecting babies from all over the world and Brad Pitt would rather make his own. I think I recall Michael Jackson wanting to adopt a child from every continent at one stage, I hope that never happens :/

What is with celebrities and adopting children from poor countries? Sure it's great that they're giving them a better life but if you really want to help, how about donating a few million to help a lot more orphans. I dunno, like Guy Ritchie he's worried "his wife may just want the child as a celebrity status symbol". Would celebrities really go that far?

As soon as (or rather if) her career picks up again she'll forget about it no doubt.

Well this hasn't gone as smoothly as would have been liked for Madonna but apparently the kid is on it's way to England at the minute.

Wonder who the next celebrity will be?

Maybe I have a severe aversion to spoilt brats (for example I would love to cause physical harm to someone like Nicki from Big Brother or Nicole Ritchie, just down to the fact that they ANNOY THE LIFE OUT OF ME), but I think I'd rather the child starved.

Although surely they can see that their kid would grow up to be a spoilt imature brat, who wouldn't spit on them in the street?

Nope, but then I don't have to suffer the financial and physical hardship some of these people do ... maybe they think that their child will live a better and more full life with these celebs ...

Though I do realise some of these parents have very little choice in giving up their children, even though they may want to keep them.

It's not really solving a problem, either, is it? I mean there are thousands of children in orphanages in third world countries, but the only way to really help them is to build up the area, make the orphanage safe and profitable and to keep the community going by training the people to look after themselves.

You can't just throw money at the problem or take a few kids away, these famous people, if they really want to help, would be going out to the country and working with charities like ActionAid (who I used to work for) to get the people back on their feet and earning money. New water supplies, initial batches of crops etc do need to be set up at first to get them on their feet, but you need to help the people re-discover their ability to fend for themselves.

Plus someone needs to teach their governments a lesson for leaving these people in that condition in the first place...
