Hi people, I've been thinking of restricting certain users from entering the Life... forum, much like we do with the Future of Gaming (Prime) forum. So, say from tomorrow onwards, you'll only be able to post in the Life forum if you're a Regular. Whaddya say?

In a way, this is disappointing, because intelligent people can't just come straight in and start chatting about 'clever' stuff (like monkey_man's daily food intake) - people like Light have become integral parts of this forum's success, and he was at it form the word go - but I feel like I've been forced to this position.

Opinions?

Oui. Either you put trust in some of the more... err... trustworthy members to keep this place clean, or you don't bother changing it at all. But I expect I'd just see people deleting threads that should just be moved, abusing power etc because they're in a bad mood or something.

Perhaps a voting system would work, where no-one has supreme power [bar staff] but a decision has to be.. err... thingyed by someone else.

But is it really that bad? This place seems fine to me.

It shouold be pointed out, also, that Light, a newbie, is one of the intelligent and thought provoking posters in the Life forum. Even if he does love himself.

In my opinon this is a stupid elitist idea. And banning newbies from using the life forum isn't goinbg to stop some of the idiot regulars that we have here from doing exactly the things your worried about. What then. Are you going to allow only noatables to post in the Life forum.

Surley a better idea would be to allow all users access to the forum, but have some users who moderate the forum and can inform the staff if there is a problem with any other user. In which case they could have their life forum posting privavliges withdrawn.

If you don't allow newbies to post here then the forum may become a place as dead as FOG prime, and who knows what we all be missing out on by not allowing new good posters on to the forum. Most of us started out as newbies in the first place.

For another point. I am always glad to see a new decent contributer to the Life Forum. If you disallow newbies to post here you will risk alienating newbis who are decent posters. You will be cultivating exactly the type of regular that you don't want. And life will become a pull for these types of regulars simply because they are not allowed to post here as newbie.

I seriouly think that if you allow this to happen then we will see a decrease in the amount of decent posts here, and an increase in the number of idiot regulars who will post here

Life is fine as it is, why risk changing it when it isn't broken.

If this idiotic idea goes ahead then I will certainly have to consider if I think its worth hanging around.

Are we talking of a total ban of posting, or just starting topics as in prime?

I assumed the latter.

But where would they post to get their stats up? I'm not much of a gamer but if I stumbled across this forum I might be interested enough to enter a discussion.

But if i'm not allowed to post in here, I'm hardly going to go and post 300 times in forums about gaming or wrestling (or something else that I have no interest in) just for the privilage of talking to you all.

Surely it will just put off people with an interest in these these issues, but allow people who've been posting rubbish in the chat or wrestling forums to post here as soon as they rack up enough posts.

Putting restrictions on chatting in here will only divert attention in the direction of the forum.

Before you know it, we'll have Top Score in here (who is a regular) typing all manner of unfounded and unininteresting crap in here, along with a hundred thousand other persistent offenders.

It'll be seen as "cool" to be able to post in here.

However, putting a general restriction on JATs/Newbies so they can only create x many topics per day (in all forums) would be a step in the right direction.

People who don't think think this is a good idea should read pumba's thread about six or seven posts down.
