Hi people, I've been thinking of restricting certain users from entering the Life... forum, much like we do with the Future of Gaming (Prime) forum. So, say from tomorrow onwards, you'll only be able to post in the Life forum if you're a Regular. Whaddya say?

In a way, this is disappointing, because intelligent people can't just come straight in and start chatting about 'clever' stuff (like monkey_man's daily food intake) - people like Light have become integral parts of this forum's success, and he was at it form the word go - but I feel like I've been forced to this position.

Opinions?

The way it came across was thus.

This is my favorite forum and because I am a staffie I can stop newbies from posting here.

In retrospect you proabably aren't jumped up. You do have the power to do this if you wish. I would have just hoped that the staffies could have been fairer. And I think my point is valid. If you sudenly take a liking to another forum, what is to stop you from doing that same there.

If your offended I'm sorry, but I don't remember you ever stopping to think before you offended me.

I get the feeling you're not fussed on the idea then, Ros?

Jumped up staffie? Well excuse me for trying to keep the best forum on here from becoming a mess. This was done to try and stop this forum from being ruined, which I can see happening frankly. This wasn't going to be done out of spite, or elitism, it was going to be done to preserve it in its current state.

As it happens, it probably won't happen now anyway. But I resent being called jumped up, thank you very much.

I thought we had 1 already.

wouldn't that make 2, or am I missing something.

If you allow this sooner or later it will every forum that some jumped up staffie takes a linking to.

Just prevent newbies from starting topics, apart from those that have already contributed more than "i fink traynz are reely cool and smell like cat"

1 forum out of so many that there are certain standards expected isn't a bad thing.
And there's a difference between elitist and saying "you know what, you really should just go play in Fog Chat"

The alternative is, of course, to create a new forum to which only certain people gain admission.

Of course, all the regular posters of worthwhile material get immediate access to this forum (which non-members should NOT be able to view otherwise and hence not know of it's existence), while other posters that come along need only a few references to be admitted to the extra area.

My only concern with this system however, is that I'll not be deemed worthy of entry....

I agree with Goatboy.

There are at least 10 'goober forums'
There should be at least one decent one.

If you ban newbies from posting in Life then the overall quality of newer regulars is going to go down. people are not going to hang around waiting to become a regular in some of the crappiness that is out there in other forums, just so that they can post in here one day.

I love the life forum and I don't want this to happen. I won't use an elitist forum. :(

Buh?

This forum is turning the way of Movies.
Used to be cool, intelligent discussions that stayed on-topic.
Now it's utter crap about nothing at all with "which is" "who is" blah blah blah so I've stopped posting in there.

We've all drifted here as a sanctuary from non-specific forums. And chat? Jesus, talk about shallow end of the gene pool.
But as a result, the number of posts go up and the cowfaces amble over and start writing tatty stuff.

Yes it's snobbery, yes it's exclusion but dammit, why should we lose the last remaining forum we enjoy due to the slobbering vagueries of stupid people?
It's not a crime to enjoy intelligent discussions or read other people's writings.
But it's losing that due to the increasing number of idiots.

I wont apologise for pointing and some people and saying "christ you're thick", because there's tolerance and then there's allowing a nice forum to sink into the morass of mindfecund that is slowly seeping in.
