Moved into my room at UEA.

WoW - Cannot connect to server
Warcraft III - Cannot connect to battle.net

It must be something with the university's network but I don't know much about it.

umm help?

But you're meant to be doing all the hard work, studying, doing 20000000 words essays and getting a degree in Uni.

How would you have time for that if you was playing a game?

Hahaha, what a retarded question.

Possibly because he enjoys the game?

Why would you want to play it in Uni anyway?

My University doesn't seem to block any games (from what I hear WoW works fine) so I'd imagine they've just blocked ports that's all.

As long as you don't consume copius amounts of bandwidth, you'll most likely be able to get on fine with the method that tigamilla posted below.

Could you explain to me exactly what they can monitor?

They can see how much bandwidth I'm using so WoW shouldn't be much more than browsing web pages or downloading something, but can they see specifically what I'm looking at?

I know they can detect P2P clients so how is that given away but not running WoW?

Almost non-existent as long as you don't start running Bittorrent over it... (yes that works) - to them it will look like you are browsing webpages, the bandwidth used by WoW is tiny on the grand scale of things.

What's the chance of the university detecting this treachery?

Whitestripes I used to play WoW over a firewall last year, heres the trick:

Install this:

http://www.socks.nec.com/Download/SocksCapDownload/index.asp

Then this:

http://www.http-tunnel.com/html/solutions/http_tunnel/client.asp

(You will have to pay the $4.99/month subs Im afraid)

Once you've got the HTTP-tunnel high bandwidth subscription running simply open WoW IN Sockcap (You will have to set up a WoW profile in sockscap)

I hope that helps
