Ok, for many years I have considered learning (well trying) to play guitar.
Might get one for christmas. My dad plays bass and normal guitar but doubt he would have much time to show the ropes.

So how did you learn?
How long did it take for you to get semi - decent?

I am not really musically gifted, I can be a quick learner for most things but I have a feeling this could be quite different.

So errm let me know.
Thanks.

Technically a guitar can have as many strings as you want...

but then some have 12.
:-)

Bass plays the bass rifts, the low beat sounds. Electric guitar plays all the main tune of the songs.

Normally only has 4 strings, compared to electric which has 6.

Basically the strings, Bass are thicker so make a deeper sound. And because the strings are thicker it changes the shape of the guitar - ie. it has a longer neck for more tension. Totally different to play.

I know this may sound really really dumb, but whats the difference between a "bass guitar" and a normal electric one?

Was also going to check out merchant city music too.
There is one local to me aswell so I should go there to see what they have before deciding.

Go to MacCormacks

It's at top of Buchannon Street... turn left just before Virgin megastore and just walk till you see it.
