So I get up early for once on holidays to do history essay and geography

But wait my RAM has arrived in the post, I'll do that.

Disconnect computer, take cover off, touch radiator etc

AH there the RAM slot... about 5000 wires are in the way and is behind a metal bit which cut my hands to bit. 2 of the wires were disconnected for some reason.

So I manage to fit the RAM chip thing, put computer back together put on power.

Then it says memory error... and start-up screen is fuzzy. it's not fuzzy now but still only says 64MB

So what's up?

eh eh?

Whoever said it was easy try my computer

And don't suggest take it to SR because I live in Scotland

P.S. Don't solely rely on me. As I said, I'm not able to go on the net for a week, so if I can't fix it today, and Dan doesn't get back to you, you'll have to find someone else. Maybe if you got desperate, PCWORLD. ONLY if your desperate, though! I'll check at 12:20, try to help, but I've gotta to go by 01:30!

Did you get it from SR?

Presumably, you're not quite stupid enough to buy an iMac DIMM, and for £20 you won't get DDR RAM.

So you probably have got standard SDRAM, which your computer will almost certainly take.

You need to figure out if it's the RAM or the RAM slot that's fecking your machine up. Take out both pieces, and try booting your computer with each in turn. You might find that neither work in the second slot, or that the second block doesn't work in either slot.

If get any other results, then you're definitely a moron :)

If it's been installed correctly, maybe your computer does not yet recognise it. E.G. If you had a silver car with a poor engine, then swapped it with another silver car with a better engine, the wife wouldn't know. Until you told her. It's (kind of) the same with computers. I don't have time to go through everything that could be wrong, and my knowledge is limited. I only know a little from PCZone and a friend, DAN. He's REALLY good with computers. He owns a developer. If you want, I could refer you're problem to him. My addy is [email protected]

Send an e-mail with your address and exactly what happens, and I'll try to get back to you today. Unfort, I can't go on the NET next week, so if I don't reply today, it won't be until next week! I'll get Dan to reply.

When it loads up their is the normal screen but it also flashes with colours in random place. Then the Windows 98 goes fuzzy then it works fine.

In background at start-up I can se 124 Memory Error and boxes saving save or change or something

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
