But wait my RAM has arrived in the post, I'll do that.
Disconnect computer, take cover off, touch radiator etc
AH there the RAM slot... about 5000 wires are in the way and is behind a metal bit which cut my hands to bit. 2 of the wires were disconnected for some reason.
So I manage to fit the RAM chip thing, put computer back together put on power.
Then it says memory error... and start-up screen is fuzzy. it's not fuzzy now but still only says 64MB
So what's up?
eh eh?
Whoever said it was easy try my computer
And don't suggest take it to SR because I live in Scotland
what CPU do you have. AMD/INTEL, Althon/PentiumX/Duron/Celeron? What clock speed is it? From this we can assertain what front side bus it has and therefore what RAM will work. To do this, right click on 'MyComputer' icon. then go to properties. And click on the 'General TAB'. At the bottom is the info on your CPU. It will also tell you how much RAM you have installed.
second,
what make of Motherboard do you have?
However, i must say the chances of you CPU or Mobo not accepting PC100 RAM is minimal. Unless you've got a P4 then almost all CPUs can take PC100. and if your CPU is fine with it (i.e. you Front side buss on the PC can take it) then the mobo will be able to do so also.
What this means is that the chacnes are you either a have bad RAM. or to be honest the interferance you talk about when the machine boots would indicate to me that there is some kind of short circuit, thus making the display go wrong. Are you sure all the wires aren't touching other bits of the computer? With particular refernece to your video card and the monitor out put. If you are getting a short on this with another wire, then interferance would certianly accur.
Dammit
I should have investigated more
> Firstly, lol at you living in scotland.

Macedonia.
;-)
Someone else will know for sure
re-install windows.
It actually seemed to clear up most problems quite effectively...
Some types have same pin config so will fit in but are not comaptable with the Mother Board.
Now I have never opened it in 2 years
Yet there are loose wires everywhere
It is impossible to get near RAM slots, it's below this metal bit THAT KEEPS CUTTING ME
And if it's the slot then I'll take out the 64mb
Put in the 128mb one
Give 64mb to brother and then we both have 128MB
YAY
