So I get up early for once on holidays to do history essay and geography

But wait my RAM has arrived in the post, I'll do that.

Disconnect computer, take cover off, touch radiator etc

AH there the RAM slot... about 5000 wires are in the way and is behind a metal bit which cut my hands to bit. 2 of the wires were disconnected for some reason.

So I manage to fit the RAM chip thing, put computer back together put on power.

Then it says memory error... and start-up screen is fuzzy. it's not fuzzy now but still only says 64MB

So what's up?

eh eh?

Whoever said it was easy try my computer

And don't suggest take it to SR because I live in Scotland

Tis a G4. Running OSX and mainly for digital editing, including 3D graphics etc... thats why I have that.

My pc is one I have just built, a 2.2Ghz, 100GB HD, 512MB DDR PC2100 RAM and Gainward GeForce 4 Powerpack MX/600.

It took me a long time to get it all working, now it powers its way around its programs. All I need now is BT to come and install my second broadband connection.

Stupid company. :(

although i haven't actually put it together yet, as i gotta get a new mobo

Can it hold its own against my mere 1.5GB RAM on a Dual Processor.

:-P

It's Compaq Presario
GenuineIntel
Intel Celeron Process

64MB RAM already
PII 433

Not sure how you've got the CPU down as a Celeron AND PII as to my knowledge not even early celerons are based on the PII core.

Strange.

However, it's safe to assume you have a Celeron, as Intel have never released a PII running at 433MHz

And as Er-no said. this means you've got the wrong type of RAM.

A Celeron 433MHz would have a front side bus running of 66MHz, withthe clock multiplier set at about 6.5

Bascially...

Front side bus speed X clock multipler = CPU speed

So...66MHz (front side bus) X 6.5 (multiplier) = 429MHZ

which is about as close as it gets in the world of PCs

You need RAM clock at 66MHz. The interferance is because the frequence of the new RAM is something the CPU frontside bus cannot understand, and also this is why when you get to windows, it doesn't recognise it.

Oh and i agree with Er-no on another point. you need a whole new computer dude! 66Mhz RAM, i mean, come on ;-)

Go back to the original settings you had with just the 64MB, I think you have brought the wrong RAM. I also think you need to upgrade the whole machine.

I can help:

Windows operated computers are crap.

Buy a mac.

or.. you have brought the wrong RAM and your motherboard doesn't support it.
