this isn't a console war topic i'm starting it's just that i want to know which of the two has the best control pad for first person shooters. I have a PS2 and although the pad is good it isn't so hot when it come to first person shooters. I don't want any fanboy spam just neutral comparisons please.

In your opinion, maybe, but the majority find Super Smash Bros. Melee a refreshing and fast paced game that's a real must for any gamers collection.

I've seen very few multi-format games that are better on X-Box, as more often than not, they're all the same. Also, there are some games that are best on GameCube (e.g. Turok Evolution).

Hmph.. X-Box LIVE has been pushed back to next year, with Nintendo already online in Japan and set to do so soon in America. No plans? I think not. GameCube Online will reach us early next year.

Psh.. more like they can't compact it, adding to the price.

Yes, and you have to build an extension to your house to get your X-Box in.

There a couple of decent X-Box games witha bout 40 GC ones.

The PS2 and the GC would be the perfect combo as, in my opinion, they have the best exclusives and potential.

Indeed it does.

In mine get a GameCube.

Yes, I can. And if you did a little more playing and a little less looking, you'll be surprised. Colours vary, so that's a foolish statement and it's actually bigger than a PS2 pad. The buttons are different and original and some people jump the gun and give them a bad name. This is unfortunate as the buttons are very good. The D-Pad's fine in my opinion, and I think it's the most trustworthy one as I've played with a GC controller for a lot longer than you.

And can you honestly look at the X-Box controller and say it's got gamers in mind? Just play with it for half a second and you'll see. It's too big and acts on an idea that Sega had which failed too impress, there are too many buttons and on top of an odd shape it's awkward to hold. And don't go on about the size of my hands because my friends all agree with me.

> Just because youve got the hands of a neanderthal (i never knew how to

My hands are perfectly normal, and though a little large nothing noticable. I think you're just clutching at straws in a vane attempt to promote the X-Box.

Every controller takes getting used to (took me about a week with the PS2) and after lots of research, Nintendo found that the style of the GameCube's analogue sticks was the right way to go. The pad's got just the right amount of buttons, and any more would be unnecessary. I can tell you've not played much with it, as it's great for looking around and 's**t like that'.

I'd say GC as the X-Boxes are like bricks - No offence X-Boxers.

At the end of the day it comes down to what your looking for out of a console. Both the X-Box and GC have plenty to offer in terms of games depending on the types of games you enjoy more.

The controller also comes down to personal taste. I didn't really like the GC controller very much. It was comfatable to hold but for me, the D-pad was way too small, I didn't like the location of the Z button and I think it could have done with at least 1 more button on it as games such as Rogue Leader use them all and it got frustrating at times when opening the wings of the X-Wing was shared by the button used to accelerate.

As for console potential, I'd say this has to go to the X-Box as Microsoft have worked on different areas of gaming. You have the hard drive which is used to save games and can also be used to play games that other consoles wouldn't be able to do such as Blinx and Project Ego. The hard drive can also be used by developers to add little touches to their games such as a game remembering damage to surroundings and bodies, blood and bullet holes not disappearing after a short time.
Of course this is only a minor thing, but it still adds up to make a nice atmosphere in games that might have things such as a battlefield which will show the carnage around you as it progresses.

You have the online parts taken care of as they're already built into the X-Box. If you're looking to play online on the PS2 or GC, you will have to spend money on the adapter. Also, Microsoft will have the best online service with all games supporting the headset so that you can chat to your allies and opponents throughout every game. It will also feature various things such as an active buddy list that will tell you when your friends are online and an opponent matchmaking feature that will find you players of similar gaming ability as you (in case your wondering how this is done - everyone will have an online profile that covers all games you play and will show your wins and losses, etc).
Microsoft have put $2 billion into X-Box Live and it looks like its going to be pretty special.

Going back to the hard drive, you can upload your favourite CD tracks onto the console and use them in certain games such as PGR. Instead of listening to the soundtracks already in a game, you can listen to your own without having to sacrifice the other sounds in the game.

The X-Box also has the capability for link up play. Upto 4 X-Box consoles can be linked up to play the likes of upto 16 player Halo multiplayers. Most will agree that an FPS multiplayer is always a better experience when you can't see where your opponents are and this link up also enables the chance for some large team games.

You can rely on these topics to go...well...a little off topic, can't you?

The Xbox controller, although bulky, seems to be just right for FPS games as far as I can tell. The gamecube is better for games that require small and accurate movements, such as with Super Monkey Ball, and also sits nicely in the hand. The Xbox controller, however, is covered in a rash of buttons for your every need, from sidestepping through to strafing, but the d-controller is a bit bulky for anything small.

Both are pretty good, for different reasons, but if you're in to FPS games anyway, either get an Xbox or a PC. Gamecube games are top class, but they are also original, so that might put some people off.

I seriously suggest getting an Xbox, i have played most the games on the GC and havnt found them to be anything special. SSBM is alright, but everyone i know that has it dont play it anymore, its more of a five minute wonder.

From all the reviews ive read of games that are released on all platforms, the xbox versions always get the best score and are said to be the better games.

Plus it has a DVD player like the PS2.
Also it has a harddrive which comes with it and not like for the PS2 where you will have to turn out about 70 quid for one. Admittedly it is alot larger than the xbox hardrive but now the xbox has come down in price to match that of the PS2 and the GC. (not Matching, but there is only about 40 quid difference now)

Online gaming is alot closer for the xbox, only a month or two left now, i havnt heard any of the plans for online GC yet.

So what if its bigger, it just means that there is more in it.

Gamecube would be useful if you were to run out of bricks when building an extention to your house.

There are a few games which would interest me in the line up for Nintendo, but 1 or 2 at the most. There are aleast 10 i would want to buy for the xbox before christmas alone.

If anything you would wanna get a PS2 over a GC for now because it has got a large number of games out which are worth buying, unlike the GC.

I would still say lbs for lbs the xbox is better in my oppinion, though it all comes down to the games. and what games you like and which ones you dont like.

if you want my oppinion get an xbox.
