As I have stated countless times before the GC is cheap because it is a cheap piece of technology.
Facts
GC Xbox PS2
1.5 gig format 4.5gig dvd 4.5gig dvd
Dvd playback none Yes needs controller Yes out of the box
10 million 90 million 20 million
polys per second polys per second polys per second
Dolby 5.1 none Dolby 5.1 yes Dolby 5.1 yes
Serial ports USB, Opitical, ethernet USB, firewire,Optical
480 x 640 1172 x 800 at least 1172 x 800 at least
These are a few examples and just go to show why the GC is cheaper than the other two console because it's old hat technology, the one bit of modern technology is not worth having the custom 1.5 discs (Resi Evil on two disc so yesterday) are a waste of time and only designed so that Nintendo can charge the publishers more for custom tooling.
i have been saying that when ive seen gc and ps2 and xbox graphics side by side (at that games event) the gc stuff looked alot better. Now at some point ill get a m8 with an xbox to come over and we will compare gc,ps2 and xbox in one go.
Also this DVD replacing VHS crap.
Well yes VHS is crap BUT how much for a dvd-rw? ohh about £1000 or so. We pay ALOT for dvds in england and we pay alot for the bits of kit that play them. Personally VHS will be around for years to come until DVD technology is halved in price. Personally i still h8 paying £18:00 approx for a dvd.

Let me explain my friend.
DVD is one of many additions Sony have thrown over the PS2 along with games. Sony have also made linux (operative system) that brings it even closer to home bussiness style thing, it also uses internet and throw in a mouse and keyboard and BAM! You have a portable PC for just £170... is this still a games industry now? with the leader of it going down other avenues pi$$ing off Panasonic (DVD) and Microsoft (all of it).
Panasonic sign with Nintendo to try to battle Sony and Microsoft pump millions into a failing enterprise (x-box)... but the fact it is failing doesn't matter... as long as it destroys Sony and keeps them from their precious PC user database. We have a completley new war now, war of the mini-pc's that oh also have games involved. Nintendo to avoid losing just sit around and say... we'll stick with the whole "GAMES" idea.
That is why Sony can bring down the games industry but cutting games costs to beat Microsoft and they'll all go out of bussiness that way.

And what PS2 games support eight players? Either none, or very few I believe. Also, buying two multitaps will set you back around £60.00. Great value, isn't it? [sarcasm]

Erm... or PC? And I haven't come across any preview discs, maybe you should do your research.

At the cost of game piracy and moving the entire game market into multi-platform systems... getting microsoft involved as it treads on the toes of PC and brings about a war that only Microsoft can win because of its huge wealth of money. And Nintendo are the only company that doesn't get involved by sticking with the old "games" machine idea.
