Well Well Sony and MS drop the price of there already very affordable machines this can only be a bad thing for GC as no-one can buy a GC and seperate DVD player for £159 or £169.

As I have stated countless times before the GC is cheap because it is a cheap piece of technology.

Facts

GC Xbox PS2

1.5 gig format 4.5gig dvd 4.5gig dvd

Dvd playback none Yes needs controller Yes out of the box

10 million 90 million 20 million
polys per second polys per second polys per second

Dolby 5.1 none Dolby 5.1 yes Dolby 5.1 yes

Serial ports USB, Opitical, ethernet USB, firewire,Optical

480 x 640 1172 x 800 at least 1172 x 800 at least

These are a few examples and just go to show why the GC is cheaper than the other two console because it's old hat technology, the one bit of modern technology is not worth having the custom 1.5 discs (Resi Evil on two disc so yesterday) are a waste of time and only designed so that Nintendo can charge the publishers more for custom tooling.

What do n00bs know. It would a great thing to bring down the Xbox with our own cds, but it would never completly wipe them out.

Don't put Gamecube discs in it then, That'll give it a major fault.

I don't think it will be a complete disaster for Nintendo although it could be.

Sooner or later familys will have to choose, expensive but all round systems with internet shopping, windows, DVD player, CD player etc... for all the family or a cheap Games console. It'll depend on what they want, of they already have a PC and a DVD player then they'll just want a Nintendo console. Nevertheless with Microsoft and Sony fighting, Microsoft in particular may drop software prices. Now Microsoft can afford to do that but Nintendo's greatest revenue is from Software. When Microsoft and Sony drop their prices to Gamecube's current price it MUST STOP THERE! Sony won't drop any further, they'll produce a platinum range but they won't drop new game prices too much.

If that happens then the industry is doomed.

Dringo has said what i would have said if he didnt, yes that does make sence im sure.

What i meant by Sony making the ps2 do things like playing dvds will mean that then they will include more stuff in the next and so on and so on.
With Microsoft joining, and including a hard drive, will make things worse and it will continue like this.

Also like Dringo said the battle is more between microsoft and sony, as miyamoto said in a press confrence.

Microsoft will battle sony and becuase they both are aiming for other things, all round home system, people who are after everything will consider buying one of the two.
They are both big companies so they will keep adding more stuff and dropping the price, they will lose money for sure but they will carry on.
Soon the games will be 2nd to other thing meaning the battle will then leave games and revolve around having more things in 1.

Meaning that unless nintendo keep to their plans of gameing only we will soon be with no gaming at all. :-(

This could be a bad thing or a good thing for nintendo, the years before this happens will see nintendo losing money but when it does they will rake in the money. Heres hoping.

Sony walking down false aisles like DVD's will be their downfall. Doing so has awoken Microsoft who will destroy them. Nintendo are lucky they didn't follown Sony's lead.

Snap.

I've got a £750 dedicated player which is R2 only. I use my PS2 with Region X for R1 discs, and the difference in quality is so small as to be irrelevant. Makes you wonder, actually, why people bother with expensive DVD players. :-) (My excuse is that I got my player before PS2 was available here!)

Right. I cant be bothered to argue with this.. FOOL.

Cheap piece of technology? Lol..

Bah, specs, who cares? Meh, I cant be bothered.

You sit there with your PS2 and its crappy DVD player, and you sit there with your X-Box and its DVD player, an watch your DVD's. While im playing games. Oh yea, GAMES console.

Ahem.
