Do you all remember the Legend of Zelda and Majora's Mask on N64?
Do you all remember the graphics, the temples and characters?
Now that the Gamecube is out theres a new Zelda game
in the making, coming soon. But when I saw the screen shots
in a Nintendo magazine I was totally shocked and disappointed.
They had made it look like a stupid little cartoon, leaving you wondering
what on earth was going through the designers head. He's disappointed
lots of Zelda fans and I can only hope he makes a new improved
Zelda game as a very quick follow up. Although it'd be nice to think that the screen shots are just a sick joke. Imagine playstation turning Lara Croft into a Powerpuff Girl lookalike, they'd be an uproar.

zelda looks great in cel shading, the whole look just looks more like the early zelda from the snes,
i dont think cel shading looks great on every type of game eg, resident evil, just wouldnt work, but something like zelda is perfect for it,

ps. if zelda is a hit i recon the next mario might be cel shaded

Yes, but quotes such as 'Graphics are everything!' are wrong and aren't a matter of opinion.

I am not saying he's wrong at all, I have maintained though that graphics do not infact effect how good a game is in terms of gameplay, and based on that he has told me that I'm obviously 'easily pleased'. Which I didn't take as a complement.

and he/she is the only one that did. Weighing up the argument, I'd have to come down on the side of britgamer. He/she is expressing an opinion, that he would find the game better if the graphics were an improvement on the style presented on the N64 version, rather than the cell shaded power puff look - which one assumes he feels will detract from his enjoyment of the game.

Now, you mightn't agree, but who are any of you to say his opinion is wrong? how can it be? its his/her opinion.

you crazy monkeys you!

So, out of the appaling Bubsy 3D for PSOne and Super Mario Bros. 3, you'd choose Bubsy 3D? Thought not.

I was the one who posted the original message remember, so your the ones arguing with me. It is just my opinion afterall, I'm not harbouring any hopes that Shigsy is going to make a game with graphics that suit my taste, especially for me.

Britgamer, read what we're saying.

The new Zelda is better Cell Shaded for many reason:

1 More flowing animation:
It's the smoothest animation you can get. With CGI graphics (the plastacine model style you like to call "realistic"), the animations/facial expressions etc look really corny and fake.
This game will be brought to life like no other.

2 More character:
In the N64 Zelda games, Link had NO character.
He had one or two different "looks" on his face, which stayed the same all the time. Yes, they could've given him a bit more character with GCI graphics, but with this Cel Shading effect, he OOZES with it.
Instead of being some serious looking ponce 24/7, he'll be a proper character this time round, and much more entertaining to play as.

3 Something different:
When Zelda 64 first came out, it was the only game of it's kind.
Since then, every develloper on the planet has cloned it and you see that sort of game EVERYWHERE now ALL the time. CGI has been used to death, and it's sort of getting boring now.

Nintendo are putting in a new and refreshing style that hasn't been used this way before. While other devellopers are simply trying to make grass look green and skies look bluer, Nintendo are moving things forward by bringing a game to life rather than just simply making it look pretty.

It the game wouldn't come to life so well with CGI graphics.
You want the best of both worlds (graphics and gameplay) and the new Zelda delivers. Yes, the graphics look poor in screenshots but does that really matter when they run so smoothly in the game?

The film Lord of the Rings (a fantasy if there ever was one) was filmed actually using real people. I'm inclined to think that it wouldn't have made quite the same impact in cartoon. The same goes for the new Zelda, although real people can't be used, a look of realism would only be an improvement, in my opinion.
