I'm fed up with the really noisy fans in my PC - they're driving me insane. I've had a look at a Water Cooling Kit available from Maplins, with the following equipment:

2 x Waterblocks
1 x thermal paste
9ft of ¼" silicon tubing
1 x Fill jug
4 x Different Mounting Clips
1 x Slot 1/A adaptor
3 x Slot and Socket hold down devices
1 x P4 device
1 x 12v Pump/Res
1 x Box full of hose clamps/screws.

I have no idea what this means for the welfare of my PC once installed, but I need to know, for those who've used or know more about water cooling, if the water tank/reservoir required is relatively small (ie. fits into a small room), and where the coolers will be installed ie. on the CPU, GPU, but is there a need for anywhere else?

I'm asking this as the two additional fans I have on the case produce the loudest noise, and I want to get rid of these as well.

Finally, a thing about Peltier devices - I've heard about it can channel heat so that it's very hot on one side, and cool on the other - where does this heat go without boiling the PC - would a water cooler be a good thing to use next to the Peltier device?

I hope someone can help.

Usually find that the PSU fan is pretty noisy thats why it is worth replacing it with a quieter fan but all in all water cooling is v v quiet all you need is a low speed 120mm fan for the rad running at 5 volts and then replace your PSU Fan with something a bit quieter (papst), also you can get good passive Heatsinks for your Graphics and BAM you have one quiet PC, you can even water cool everything now even the PSU.

Stay away from DELTA fans although the push a good amount of air they are sooooooooooooo loud, i have an 80mm delta screamer on my Heatsink back when i had an XP1800+ overclocked system and also a 120mm 120cfm fan and that was LOUD to say the least although my cpu temp never went over 28 degrees under load, weight up the pro's and con's.

As I recall Andi, you had a Delta, and anybody who buys a Delta is just asking for it.

Have you ever listened to the inside of your case? GPUs, PSUs in particular, harddrives, they all make noise and the almost certainly make more noise than your heatsink fan.

Rob's talking crap again, how can you guarantee that? How do you know the rest of his setup? My last HSF was the loudest part of my PC, now my intake and exhaust fans are, everybody's PC is different.

So what is the loudest part of the PC that will "drown" out the rest of the noise?

I'd recommend an AX7 and a Papst fan - which will prvide better cooling at less noise than a Zalman. However, even with a YS-TECH fan it's still pretty funning quiet.

The thing is, I *gaurantee* that you can't tell the difference between an AX7+Papst and a Zalman in any case, because quite simply there *will* be something that drowns them out. Believe me, I've carried out extensive tests, and just unplugging my CPU fan (which is a YS0TECH) makes absolutely zero discernable diference to the noise. I'm not overexaggearting, it really doesn't.

Zalmans are a waste of money and cooling.
