I don’t think I would be expressing a minority opinion here if I said I enjoy computer games. In particular I enjoy games that involve killing things, often human beings. Recently, I have sampled the delights of Medal of Honour, Max Payne, RTCW, Operation Flashpoint, and most recently Soldier of Fortune 2. Now, I love Soldier of Fortune 2. The reason I love it is not for the beautiful graphics (though they are stunning), the twisting story (though it is intriguing) or Madeline Taylor (um…), the reason Soldier of Fortune 2 is enjoyable is because you get to kill things in the head, in graphic detail, and with a fantastic selection of weapons. And don’t try to pretend you’re any different.
I also have what many (including myself) would describe as an unhealthy obsession with guns. I can tell you what caliber rounds an M4A1 Carbine assault rifle fires, three different names for the SA80, what the hell an M203 is, the difference between an AK47 and an AK74, and why you need to be afraid of Vinnie Jones in Snatch telling you he has “Desert Eagle, point five oh” written down the side of his.
However, despite what the press will tell you, I am not yet a homicidal lunatic. Finding out so much information about firearms and seeing people die in horrific ways on screen has taught me a lot. As a result, I am about as anti-guns as anyone you’re likely to meet. The idea of them being freely available to the public as they are in America terrifies me. The idea of people keeping them and firing them for fun disgusts me. They are lethal weapons. They are not for “fun”. You may be the sanest person in the world but to own a gun is dangerous in so many ways, as I have seen for myself (as closely as I ever want to). I have to admit that it seems conceivable that violence on the scale of SoF2 may push an already unbalanced person over the edge, but anyone possessing a sound and rational mind can only draw one conclusion. Mr. Heckler, Mr. Koch, take your guns and stick them where the sun don't shine. If the tabloids feel like a headline, how about “Computer games taught me guns are evil”.

Guns are bad and guns are good. Just like a car can be turned into a weapon, guns have redeeming features as well. For example, if i was camping in the wilderness and a bear attacked me, do you think i would have a better chance of survival with a gun, or with a hunting knife? Yes guns are used to kill people, and knives are used to kill people, hell people have probably been stabbed with spoons! Someone mentioned using clubs instead, so if you club someone on the head, they wont die? They wont have brain damage? God id rather get shot in the brain with the gun, at least thats quicker!

No I wouldn't consider him human and I would probably stamp on his face until he stopped moving then stamp some more. No one has a right to be in my house unless they are invited especially sub human scum like burglars.

That's a good question. I'd do what i have to do the stay alive, simple self-preservation. It's simple, as the US forces say, do or die, gun ho, gun ho, gun ho.

Killing sucks, everyone's human (even politicians... just) including someone who breaks into your home, just means they're either not a particularly nice human, one that's particularly desperate or one that doesn't have many morals. Still human though. I would say blowing away a robber is wrong, firing some warning shots should scare them away... but if they have a gun, and it's a you or them situation... what would you do...?

Jesus, so you think it's ok to take the law into your own hands? If you find someone in your house you would shoot them if you had a gun to hand. Thank you f, you've just proven my point right there.

If retards like you could get their hands on any guns they wanted, we'd have goddamn vigilantes roaming the countryside and people shooting anyone suspicious they found within half a click of their property.

Learn how to argue and then come back. And even then I'll cream your punk a55. You "wouldn't consider him human"? Christ, why not bring back slavery as well. Moron.

Look, you've already disgraced yourself with the original post. Time to take a walk.

If I found a bad guy in my house helping himself to my stuff then I wouldn't consider him human and I certainly wouldn't be able to control myself. Whether I had a gun or not I would come out the winner and that person would never do it again. If you know what I mean......

Why don't you actually stop talking so much rubbish and go to a gun club, see what goes on there and stop putting in your completely unjustified opinion?

Er, I reckon this is probably drifting off my original point a lS**ttle too much - but still, do you really have any evidence to say that society would have developed differently? And if S**t did, would S**t necessarily be for the worse?
You can't really praise the gun for safeguarding our liberties when they are also in the hands of any attacking force. While we can use them to defend against an invader, they wouldn't be invading if they didn't have weapons.

So you think if you see a dodgy looking chap down a dark alley you are taking a risk by NOT shooting him?

who are you, or even anyone wS**th a gun, to decide who deserves to get shot and who doesn't. Even if he is a bad guy, S**t's still human life.

Ok, mistakes do happen, but are

If you hS**t someone on the head, they fall down. If you SHOOT someone in the head, they don't get up...

You're right there. St does happen, and we do try to deal wS**th S**t. And I realise that guns are a big part of the world, but that doesn't mean I have to like S**t. I think S**t would be better if we were to deal wS**th the afformentioned st before people get hurt rather than (if you'll excuse the language) trying to pick up the pieces afterwoulds. As to your final point, I'm very glad to say that we are controlling them. It's America that scares me. Oh, and the idea of those controls being slackened.

Guns aren't evil. Only the people that use them are (depending on motives).
