In my personal opinion there are a number of reasons for this which i feel Mr. Bill Gates needs to address before the X-box can turn into the success that he has hoped for.
The Price
Ok This has got to be the biggest problem with the microsoft bad boy. I am not putting anything against the console because i think it has possibly the most potential of all of the next generation consoles. It is the fasted the most powerful and has a top notch DVD player not to mention the memory meaning no memory cards are needed as there is next to an infinite amount of save space. However despite the excellent potential it posesses the console itself is still not worth the £300 price mark they gave on release, even after the drop to £200 it is still struggling because basically who is going to pay that kind of money for something that does not blow away the competition. The games are not too expensive, about average however with the need of a dvd remote to use the dvd feature the cost of the original price soon rises. The competition is too strong for such a price.
The Games
Lets face it this is what you buy a console. Sure you can get 84 controller ports, a 67 dvd disc changer, puker cd player and more tools than a swiss army knife but if you havent got the games to back it up what is the point in being able to even cook ya toast in ya console eh?
It is unfortunate that in the most important factor of the console the X-box fails miserably at present. The only 3 big sellers they had on launch day were
Dead or Alive 3
Project Gotham Racing
and Halo
and lets be honest Gotham Racing while a good game is not on the same level as GT3.. Dead of Alive 3 another classic beat em up but with virtua Fighter 4 now out and Tekken 4 around the corner it just does not have the same appeal. And Halo the supposed best game of the year. While a fantastic first person shooter is heavily overated purely because it was the one major selling point of the X-box and the only "original" big hitting game they had.
I say "original" because the X-box's line up is not at all original now is it, i mean not only are the games they are bringing out not THAT impressive they are not even original. In fact 90% of microsofts games are ported from other consoles or originally planned for another console.
Halo ----> originally a PC game
Dead or Alive 3 ----> DoA2 on PS2
SSX Tricky ---> PS2
Crazy Taxi ----->PS2, DC
Champ Manager -----> PC
Munch's Odsesee(sp) ------ Oringally PS2
Am i making my point yet! the Xbox is relying heavily on the games they are bringing over from other formats. The lineup is just not strong enough and with games like
Return to castle wolfenstein
Unreal Championship
The 2 huge games coming out being pc games and first person shooters. The console needs some huge original games and alot more variety. They are getting killed on the market at the moment. They need more games like Halo and the likes of Panza Dragoon to stay in the console war.
Lets hope Bill pulls his socks up because the Xbox has the potential to be great and altho i still think gates is being greedy trying to conquer another world good luck to him hes got his work cut out.
Online?
Possibly another big selling point of the Xbox was the online gaming, well now E3 is over and the plans have been revealed the UK are getting a raw deal. The Xboxs online plans are being used with broadband and with alot of the UK not able to get broadband at the present time it means we are not all able to play online meaning less profit for microsoft and a lot of annoyed british gamers.
What are everyones views.
THESE ARE JUST MY OPINIONS AND I USUALLY TALK RUBBISH SO....

> Xbox is worth the price for Halo alone. It's one of the top 5 games

Worth the money ? I've played this game more than I've ever played any other ! I've found so much reply value out of it that even though I've beaten the game on all the different skill levels, I still love to go back for more. One of the best, if not THE best game I've ever played. :-)
So far I've found that GC games either rush you through an experience or are just frustrating. Monkey Ball might be considered a great game to some, but to me it was just frustration and as for the mini games, they felt more like you get through out of luck more than judgement.
Trying to get a ball with a monkey inside thats really not helping with its reaction over a guitar string is not my idea of fun or a good challenge. It just really wound me up. My idea of a good challenge is games like Halo, where if you get wiped out, its down to your tactics which you can change and then try again.
Games like Rogue Leader, although good, made me feel constantly under pressure all the time. Instead of being able to go and enjoy battle, dogfighting TIE's and attacking Stardestroyers with other Rebel fighters, I found myself constantly flying back to Rebel ships and defending them cause no other lazy git on my side seemed to have enough cells in their heads to do it themselves. And when I did attack the likes of a Stardestroyer, I was completely alone with every turret of the ship firing at me while these "wingmen" and "allies" of mine would just fly around like complete muppets doing nothing.
I also found Wave Race dull and Luigi's Mansion, although short, was fine up until I got to the hidden mansion mode. I ended up finishing that mode in a blaze or swearing and verbal abuse as it wasn't so much skill that got me through it, just pure luck because the game was throwing tons of ghosts at me in small rooms. You goto trap a couple of ghosts and another one would appear behind and take a cheap shot. Very annoying.
Then when I looked at the GC release schedule, I took away the titles that would be appearing on X-Box as I would be getting the X-Box version and what I was left with didn't really impress me. I also recently got a tape of E3 and when I saw Mario Sunshine and cell shaded Zelda running, they really didn't make me regret getting rid of the GC. Even looking at Metroid Prime, its looks nice, but I wouldn't go as far as to say that it'll blow all the other FPS games away. I'm perfectly happy with the FPS games coming to the Microsoft console.
Overall, games can just be argued forever though, but personally, the X-Box offers me a lot more of the games I want to play than the other 2 consoles.
Xbox is worth the price for Halo alone. It's one of the top 5 games ever in my opinion, and most who have played it share my view thats it's worth the money.
> Already discussed, and Sony's plans appear to go far beyond Microsoft's. Personally, I'm not interested in online gaming in the slightest. Never have been, even on PC, so Microsoft's options are not likely to appeal to me. Sony's might, but this will depend on exactly what services they offer apart from gaming. Time alone will tell.
I don't think your looking deeply enough into XboxLive. In my view MS service looks to go far beyond Sony's. That is if either online service takes off. MS reckon half of all Xbox owners already have Broadband, so thats a start. And like MS say, Broadband becoming commonplace is enevitable. Sony's looks alrite, but the pricing seams to be a joke. £140 to upgrade your PS2 to be online? No way, and if you think about it, for the same price you could install broadband and get the Xboxonline starter pack with voice communicator, online game and years subscription, also with a faster,better service. But as you said, time will tell.
And Wookie, just play your Xbox. Bast through the Libary level to get it over with if you must as at least you will open up the rest of Halo to play. The Xbox games you own are good, its just been so long since you've played them you have forgoten how good.
You gave about 15 games off that list poor ratings and they are not even out yet! This is typical ninty rubbish, I have the current GC release list and in my opinion and my mates we laughed so much when we saw it. The games on the list have either been done 10000's of times before or they are poor ports!
How can you say a game is poor if you haven't played it? The answer is you can't! Don't come back with a stupid answer because it is simple, you can not comment on games that are not even out yet and that was a release calendar. I could go over the GC but I won't becuase no-one is interested and it is my opinion, but one thing I wouldn't do is comment on the games before I had even played them so what the hell makes you think you can do the same?

there is no way tekken will come and u no it lol.. and virtua fighter is amazing it is not a button bashing game however it takes stratergy to master

i agree i am not putting down ports not at all, however you point on original games i do not agree with there are a handful of decent ones. And the variety of games are still awful Microsoft did not want another PC well the games show otherwise. But i spose they can only get better

Point taken. But that is a very very big sterotyping and that can get you in trouble lol. i think some of what u said is true howeveri do not think they have done that well
Im glad you are happy with your console unfortunately i have yet to be impressed with everything you have said i think that money would be better spent elsewhere for the moment however if problems are fixed then perhaps it can compete with the big boys.
The biggest problem that Xbox have got is not going to be fixed and that is they are SO BIG that each one needs its own area code!

One of the reasons the GC did so well was because of its launch price, I was even tempted to buy one but there arnt enough games that appeal to me for the GC yet and the PS2 is the most popular games console at present no matter how much people argue about it, it is a fact and cant be changed by pointless bickering so Sony can afford to sell the PS2 for a slightly more expensive price because they are still going to sell well. I admit, the graphics are better on the X-Box compared to the PS2 but as the PSX was so successful, people have gotten used to some series' like Tekken and GT so the sequels to these games were always going to do well.
You say there arent many good games for the X-Box but I have been looking at some games as some of you know and there are actually some good ones out there. As for Tekken 4 beating DOA3, that is only because people are used to the series as I said before, but the DOA series is by far the best, I have them all and prefer them to the Tekken games.
The X- Box isnt being killed on the market, it may not have taken off as fast as people may have wished or expected but given some time and about another £50 off with a game, it wont be far behind the PS2.

Thank you for the compliment i hope these will also be well put together

While the UK sales are not horrific they are not doing well at all on the market and i agree with what you are saying about Japan however you cannot argue that the majority of things are aimed at the Japanese and then the west so in some aspects it could be horrific and it could also start a revolution of western games but for some reason i do not see the 2nd happening
> Yes, there are quite a few things that need to be done, such as the

The price i have already argued and there is not plans for a future slash despite the Japs and Americans both getting one as usual the UK are getting a raw dead. And this goes for all new gen consoles the price of controllers is extortion
> I think all that which you just mentioned was worth £300. After

I can see what you are saying but for the same price i could get a top of the range DVD player and have alot left. However your point is valid however the console is still nothing without games.

Yes once again i can see your point and we are both entitled to our opinions. Like i said it is the better console at face value than the PS2 bar the size LOL

I am glad you think so i do not have the same opinion i believe the games have no depth Amped was awful in my opinion

Ok now this i cannot agree with... this is one thing you couldnt be wrong over. The GC has got titles like super monkey ball and pikmin altho slightly childish they are adictive and very original Xbox and Sony are no where near the originality of Nintendo and never will be
> It doesn't have the potential to be great. So far, it *is* great!

I agree with the PS2 statement 100% i never got 1 at first they were also overpriced and there launch titles were worse a very valid point. Xbox could blow up but they still have not sold the same sort of amount that PS2 did when they were first released

The point is you should still be givent the choice it may not be as good but not much of the UK are able to get broadband which is a great shame

Thank you and i hope i have given the same decency in this thread however i am saving some points for others lol i have to share the love :-)
