Now what has the PS2 really and truly going for it now?
Metal Gear Substance Hmm?
Well possibly, that's if you don't have the truly excellent MGS2 though.
But then there is Devil May Cry 2, all those pointless Mario Clones that will never succeed in Bettering Mario Sunshine such as Ratchet and Clank, because lets face it Mario Sunshine WILL be good, great in fact, Miyamoto is on Full Time with this one.
But really, think about it now of any other release that is a genuine buy will also be on Gamecube and Xbox. And when that happens we get better visuals with the GC and Xbox so why bother with PS2 versions?
And its been done before- Burnout it is Visually Better on GC than it is on PS2. Like- oooh so many others.......
Which brings me onto the PS2 graphics, they are sub standard!
The Majority of Games are very washed out looking- GTA3 for one and most have Jagged Edges too, plus the Flickering is appalling in some games.
Face it Sonyphiles, out of the three consoles that is out there the PS2 is the worst in terms of Visuals. The best in Visuals has to be the Gamecube followed by the Xbox. Im not being biased either, but its what I have seen and witnessed and played on EACH system to form that opinion, I own each system and take a very un-biased approach to each, if a game looks crap or plays crap ill not be afraid to say to others that it is crap, full stop.
Then we have the PS2 Controller, which is quite frankly against the other three consoles ranking Number two next to the Mighty Comfortable Gamecube effort. Having Nintendo ideas welded onto the Dual Shock (And inside the Plastic thing) it still gets a little too un-comfortable, which is shocking given where the ideas come from, the left analogue stick is awkwardly placed- fidgety and a pain. And the Analogue buttons are useless.
But lets ask one thing...A beloved machine? yes by countless millions, is the mightey PS2!.
It is only in the position it is now due to its older brother and its older brother was only successful because of Nintendo.
It is loved and cherished for all the wrong reasons, many people out there who stick by it are just too biased, too darn built up with their own mystic fantasies of it that they refuse to sample the delights of any other system. These same people, which the majority are teens, not the Teens that Sony claim to be aiming for but Children! Little children and older children. They have all got it into their head that the PS2 is the best thing ever created, they are the same people who's first console was the PS and never owned a non-Sony console in their life, which makes them blinkered even further.
Nintendo on the other hand have an average age group of 23 who own Gamecube's, consider that. And the Nintendo players have a long history with the company.
Sonyphiles, open your eyes. Sample the delights that is out there that hasn't a Sony Logo on it. You see, what I think is that Sonyphiles are afraid to do that, afraid to sample other machines to spend hours and nights and days on the greats of the XBox and GC in case they are drawn from the Sickly Beloved PS2's and realising there is better out there...by a mile!.
Am I right?
And don't say "The PS2 has been out longer", you'll just dig yourself into a lovely hole.
> But there's so, so many more on the PS2. I'm not buying a console just
> because one of its games got "game of E3".
So many more rubbish games, and GC has only been out over a month over here. What PS2 game was there that actualy looked superb - I mean seriously quality -ie MGS2 class game/flim ;-) - Like Zelda, Mario and Metroid (and more)?
> Anyone argueing Nintendo's / Microsoft's consoles being more enjoyable

And you're not biased at all are you...?

Well, despite the argument that on a PC a game may crash/ be jerky, etc. I'd rather play the game like that than fork out £200 just to play GTA3 and the Final Fantasy series... same argument I've said about Xbox with Halo...
> I'm glad to see that no-one is screaming about Nintendo's excellent

Well, I'm sorry to say that despite Ninty not having a hell of a lot of originality at the moment, it seems like more than Sony is giving. Tell me Pikmin isn't original. And I know Nintendo should have more originality, but really, what totally original titles have been out on PS2 recently...? (and can you give me some that I won't be able to purchase on another console or my PC later...?)

Ok Consider this if you put it that way.
Compare the amount of PS2 games which would be classed as "quality" when the PS2 was FOUR Months old.
Now to be fair, count the number of Gamecube games (Even ones to come in the 4 month period)classed as quality games in the GC's first FOUR months of life in Europe, then compare GC first four months to the PS2's!
What do you get?
Or if you want, consider what the GC 'will have' when it reaches the same age as the PS2 is in Europe now, If you know what Im talking about or have any sense you'll not be surprised would you?
> PS2 has - (hundreds) More games. Quality in every genre. Bonus DVD

Oooh... Nah, this isn't a bit biased is it?
> These are pretty strong facts.
I think you mean "I have pretty strong opinions". They are not fact by any stretch of the imagination, they are opinion.
So people who buy anything else either
> haven't done their research, LOVE the couple of decent games that are

"or are just biased"... hmmm, isn't irony great ;-)

Hmmm... again, all those points are opinions, and many are not rubbish, they are perfectly valid points. They may be 'rubbish' to you, because they ARE opinions, and may not agree with your opinion, but they may well be very important points to others who have (shock, horror) a different opinion to you.

So, basically you just called yourself insecure there. You just said PS2 had "MOST QUALITY GAMES." blah blah, which is the same as saying that GC and Xbox don't have as many quality games, which is putting them down. So you must be insecure then.
> It's all about the games, and the PS2's got by far the most quality
> titles.
The most? Can you afford EVERY good game that comes out? I doubt it. So you just want the VERY BEST few games that come out, those you can afford, and particularly appeal to you. So using my logic the best console to buy is the one that has a good number of games that appeal to you most, not a huge list of games which all look good, but none stunning. In my opinion, it's not the console which has most good games, it's the one which has the BEST games for me (as long as that's more than 1 or 2 titles).
I'm totally, 100% happy with my PlayStation 2, I truly believe it is the best thing I have ever purchased, and this includes my £1600 PC.
On the subject of PCs - This £1600 PC of mine, which I admittadly bought because it does things amazingly fast, not to play games on, will only last me games-wise for about 5 years. The fact that I only ever play Counter-Strike, which runs at about 200fps doesn't matter. The fact is, My £1600 PC will only play the latest games for 5 years, something which my £300 PS2 does, and then some.
PS2 has - (hundreds) More games. Quality in every genre. Bonus DVD player. Bigger release list. Biggest user base. Best 3rd party support. More unique games. Most secure future. MOST QUALITY GAMES.
These are pretty strong facts. So people who buy anything else either haven't done their research, LOVE the couple of decent games that are available for Xbox/GC, want to be a bit 'different', are looking hopefully into an uncertain future, or are just biased.
Arguements against the PS2 have always been unjustified or pointless - lack of graphical power, difficulty to program, dated controller, some people have even argued the fact that it's a DVD player too is a negative point! Too much realism, not purely for games, the list goes on. All these points are rubbish.
It's because people are unhappy or insecure about their choice in console that they put others down blindly. If in around 2004-5 when GC Zelda appears and it's good, and the GC holds a better library of games than the PS2, then I will buy one. Same goes for x-box.
It's all about the games, and the PS2's got by far the most quality titles.
The PC? There's no point. I've got a PC, it's good for a juddery game of Unreal, but I've not got hundreds of pounds to upgrade it. You could buy a PS2 and a GC for the cost of the latest graphics card. I also like playing games on my TV, not at a monitor on my desk!
And whats with this 'not buying GC for its release list'?
Dosne't Mario, Metroid and Eternal Darkness among others meant to you people? Game of E3 anybody? Yes please - and thats not even ED, Mario, Zelda, or any other 're-hash' - its Metroid - Yes please!
