PS2.
Now what has the PS2 really and truly going for it now?
Metal Gear Substance Hmm?
Well possibly, that's if you don't have the truly excellent MGS2 though.
But then there is Devil May Cry 2, all those pointless Mario Clones that will never succeed in Bettering Mario Sunshine such as Ratchet and Clank, because lets face it Mario Sunshine WILL be good, great in fact, Miyamoto is on Full Time with this one.
But really, think about it now of any other release that is a genuine buy will also be on Gamecube and Xbox. And when that happens we get better visuals with the GC and Xbox so why bother with PS2 versions?
And its been done before- Burnout it is Visually Better on GC than it is on PS2. Like- oooh so many others.......
Which brings me onto the PS2 graphics, they are sub standard!
The Majority of Games are very washed out looking- GTA3 for one and most have Jagged Edges too, plus the Flickering is appalling in some games.
Face it Sonyphiles, out of the three consoles that is out there the PS2 is the worst in terms of Visuals. The best in Visuals has to be the Gamecube followed by the Xbox. Im not being biased either, but its what I have seen and witnessed and played on EACH system to form that opinion, I own each system and take a very un-biased approach to each, if a game looks crap or plays crap ill not be afraid to say to others that it is crap, full stop.

Then we have the PS2 Controller, which is quite frankly against the other three consoles ranking Number two next to the Mighty Comfortable Gamecube effort. Having Nintendo ideas welded onto the Dual Shock (And inside the Plastic thing) it still gets a little too un-comfortable, which is shocking given where the ideas come from, the left analogue stick is awkwardly placed- fidgety and a pain. And the Analogue buttons are useless.

But lets ask one thing...A beloved machine? yes by countless millions, is the mightey PS2!.
It is only in the position it is now due to its older brother and its older brother was only successful because of Nintendo.
It is loved and cherished for all the wrong reasons, many people out there who stick by it are just too biased, too darn built up with their own mystic fantasies of it that they refuse to sample the delights of any other system. These same people, which the majority are teens, not the Teens that Sony claim to be aiming for but Children! Little children and older children. They have all got it into their head that the PS2 is the best thing ever created, they are the same people who's first console was the PS and never owned a non-Sony console in their life, which makes them blinkered even further.
Nintendo on the other hand have an average age group of 23 who own Gamecube's, consider that. And the Nintendo players have a long history with the company.
Sonyphiles, open your eyes. Sample the delights that is out there that hasn't a Sony Logo on it. You see, what I think is that Sonyphiles are afraid to do that, afraid to sample other machines to spend hours and nights and days on the greats of the XBox and GC in case they are drawn from the Sickly Beloved PS2's and realising there is better out there...by a mile!.
Am I right?

Don't be a killjoy. You want to talk about fluffy bunnies and balloons instead? It's fun for people to talk about their consoles from a biased point of view. It doesn't hurt anyone, it's not offensive. If you don't like it, just don't click on topics called 'Sonyphiles and their beloved machine......'

The message boards were a LOT less interesting whilst the PS2 was the only console available.

Oh yeah woopee - another juvenile console war thread.

When you will you people realise.

It is not about the damn consoles, it's about the games.

We buy consoles to play games on, no other reason.

Each console has their own great games either out or coming out, make your decisions based on what games you want to play or better still get all three and forget about becoming embroiled in these silly arguments.

It's the GAMES that count......

Ok...I've got a PS2.
There was really no choice.
Personally, the PS2 was a pretty miniscule stepup from the original, only made more obvious by the superior technology of ' the other two'.
Sony, however, made all the right decisions in bringing their machine to the market - Timing of release, controlling shipments & pricing.
While the PS2 only has 2-3 games that I am really bothered about playing, it still seemed the better choice mainly because the Xbox is so obviously doomed to failure because of the lack of japanese interest and support. While developers are looking at the machine now, I can't see it ever competing with the PS2 because of the knock on effect of the p**s poor japanese market share.
As for the Ninty, I guess this is more of a subjective opinion - the Ninty is for kids!! Yep I'm sorry......my klutz girlfriend is a fan of Mario games(need I say more?!) Maybe I'm just too old for the Ninty. While they are perhaps the coolest company of the three, they just don't seem to make games aimed at me.....a jaded 30 year old westerner...!!!
I just hope that the 'next' next-gen console arrive a bit quicker and can actually live up to expectations. After all, I have yet to see a console game match up to it's PC counterpart........why!!??!!

OK.
The PS2 has been out longer, that's why it's got more quality games. Is that what you're saying? That's actually a reason to buy a PS2!!

I totally agree that in 2 years the GC is likely to have a good library of games. If it has, like i said before, I'll compare the games to that on the PS2 and trade in if they are better.

As for not being able to afford all the quality games - that's not the point. The point is choice.
The GC is great if you like Luigi, Star Wars and monkeys. The choice isn't there yet. You buy those few games bacause they're all that's available. I buy a game every month or so. When I do buy a game, i can look at the shelves and spend an hour picking out a quality game.

An example - I wanted was a flight combat game. I checked out Starfighter / Jedi Starfighter / Sky Oddysea / Top Gun (rubbish) / Dropship, and then I saw Ace Combat 4 for sale at £19.99. This demonstrates the choice I had, and AC4 at £20 was a great example of the benefit an established console has - a large amount of second hand titles.

Forget this biased stuff. If you think I'm kidding myself, and that I really wish I had a GC or X-box, that's fine. You can wait 2 years for Nintendo to release Mario Sunshine, Zelda etc. I'll be playing PS2 in the meantime and pick up a GC in 2 years when it's worth it.

Hole it is then.

NO, I EXPECT NINTENDO TO RELEASE THE GAMECUBE ON TIME

Not ONLY have we got more quality titles, we've had them longer. You're basically defending Nintendo by saying "That's OK, they've been being crap and delaying the GameCube for ages".And you call us brainwashed sheep...

I've got pretty much. I own 21 games, all have scored over 8/10 in OPS2, which is a high score, and all I think are better than the majority of games I owned for my PSone and N64, which is quote good actually. I don't buy every game, I confess to have actually either won or had them bought for me.

I'm only reflecting Ninty arguments...

But it's true, the PS2 has been out for around 2 years in the UK, the GameCube is in it's second month, so what do you expect, 300 quality titles for the GameCube?

Anyway, just because the PS2 has more titles, doesn't make it better. I can't afford every GameCube game that's out, and unless you're very rich, I'm sure you ain't got all the decent (all 2 of them :) ) PS2 games since the console's release!

Some people only buy a small selection of games throughout a consoles life, so don't give me the "It's got more games" crap

Also, I'll give pretty much the same argument that I always do. Can you afford EVERY game hat gets over, say 85%...? Didn't think so. So that argument is irrelevant. I want the console with enough titles that I feel are (or are looking) truely brilliant, not the console with loads of great games, but very few which seem truely incredible.

Uh - but it has. So logicly, there are more games out, ie a higer percentage of higher scoring games are available.
