Well it has been out quite a bit longer...
The difference between GC and Xbox figures is meaningless. NEITHER will ever get close to the sales of PS2. The reason is simply that Japan has ALWAYS been a one-console society.
The Nes outsold all the other console sales put together.
As did the SNES
The PS1 completely obliterated everything
And the PS2 looks to follow suite.
Things are far more interesting in the West, where we usually have 2 console... and perhaps even 3 this time!

It isnt "tripe" Turbo, Xbox has sold under 200,000 in Japan while GameCube is edging towards 600,000 units this year.

Where the hell did you hear that, and why the hell did you believe such blatent tripe?

Never mind the PS2...
Who says the PS1 is dead?!
Seven year old hardware. Actually, in Japan nearer eight year old hardware.
Even though it's nice and cheap now, that is still an outstanding acheivment.
I bet even Sony never thought they'd still be making them this long after launch.
I don't care if people love or hate Sony - they can't deny that they've got a heck of a machine there.
