When PS 2 gets here it will give people what they really want: brilliant games and graphics and no hassle. PC's are just too awkward for the uninitiated. Their only selling point before was their power. The next generation consoles will make this difference tiny. No wonder Bill Gates wants to make a console!

I agree with you entirely!. I've just bought a new PC (P3 800) with win ME and I stumbled on the ME Newsgroup, and you should see the problems people are having with this new operating system that they didn't have with win98/se!. Until recently I had the problem that a lot of software wouldn't run on my computer (P200mmx) but with my new computer it's 'will this run under win me?', and I have to say Special Reserve are not helpfull in indicating what hardware and software you need to run a program!. Well if you are big gaming fan, then yes they are worth the money but if you play games here and there i would say paying £225 for a top of the range Voodoo 5 card is a bit Ridiculous.
Most people have noticed that 9 out of 10, of new games need some kind of 3D card, some need more power than others, but they will need them.
I have a Voodoo 3 (£70 in most retailers) and i have to admit it does give you alot better graphics. Anyone who is looking for a Voodoo card or other 3D card may i surgest only get one if you play games alot, and don't go for high priced one's., You can buy Reasonably cheap graphic cards from Computer fair which take place all over the UK.

If you want to share your dial up internet connection you may experience some problems if you dial in to a free ISP such as freeola because generally speaking, local networks require a static IP address to connect to the internet. Each time you dial in to your free isp you will be assigned a new IP which will cause you many problems.

I am running W95 on a 266P2 with 192 Mb RAM and 4 Gb HDD. It installs in 10 minutes, loads in 1 minute and restarts in 30 seconds. I have had no trouble for 2 years. I have bought a new 10 Gb HDD and W98. On loading W98 it gets to the second restart and crashes. Nothing will persuade it to run. Microsoft told me to go away (or words to that effect) as my copy is OEM. I have narrowed the problem down to the restart routine. Disabling virus guard does not help. On the new drive in W95 loading the scanner driver also causes a crash on restart; it ran perfectly on the old drive.

A bottle of champagne is on offer for the first person to send me the solution to this problem.

I have recently shut down my website but have received over 30 emails asking me to keep it open. I have thought hard about it but decided that I cannot run it by myself. If anyone is interested in moderating it with me please contact me by email [email protected] and I will get back to you. The web site address is www.gamersworld.ukgamers.net but I am thinking of buying my own doamin if someone moderates it with me.
