For your information, the American PS2 is getting rave reviews about it's DVD capabilities. Remember, Sony have changed the configuration of the DVD drive, it is now completely internal.

The reviews from Japan were not good, but that was due to you having to use the memory card to work the DVD capability. Thankfully this will be different for us.

How do you know that it isn't up to scratch? Do you own a PS2? Have you seen one running a DVD? Or are you simply choosing to believe the claims that quality is poor, as opposed to the reports that say it matches an average-quality DVD player?

PS2 is a games console first, and a home entertainment system second. To buy all the equivalent systems that PS2 gives you in one box would cost a small fortune - give Sony and the machine some credit for daring to combine them all at a reasonable price.

No-one is claiming that DVD playback is the best there is; if it was, Sony would never sell their "real" players. It's reasonable quality for what is in truth only a small part of a much greater whole.

Then why is Sony flouting the PS2 as a home entertainment system (I feel a 3DO or a CD-i coming out of its shell here)? Surely if its a home entertainment system its DVD capabilities should be up to scratch?

At the end of the day, we could all argue about this till the cows come home. People will always have their favourite consoles, and nothing that is said here or elsewhere for that matter will change a thing.

Live and let live, that's all i have to say.

these people that come on and trash the PS2 should remember a couple of things. as i posted on the main page Dreamcast has been pulled from the shelves here in New Zealand because it is to garbage to stand up to what the manifacturers say it is supposed to do. plus the fact that they say it is a 128bit system and it is NOT. it is 2x64bit processors running in parralel so going by their standards or that of Nintendo (as the N64 is 2x32bit processors) then you could call the PS2 a 256bit processor
and as for the game cube well it will be running mini DVD disks so it wont play movies or any games from its old machine will it

Hey guys, at the end of the day, who cares what others think. I am too happy to care about other people and other consoles. These people who just come on here to slate the PS2, are under the impression that we are only getting one because we are on the crest of a wave of public hype. How wrong they are. I have said time and time again, it is a matter of CHOICE.

I must admit that i do get annoyed when people come in and say that the console is rubbish. They should not attempt to upset people because they do not like the next persons prefferences. Obviously the PS2 will not be everyones cup of tea, but that is their CHOICE.

Leave us to ours.

It makes perfect sense, and you've hit the nail right on the head!

If people would just stop for a minute and think about what they're saying, they might realise how 'favourable' they're being to their own machine brand.

What makes me chuckle is the way in which the "flaws" of the PS2 would be seen as advantages on a Sega or Nintendo machine. Observe:

Mr X says that the PS2 will be rubbish because there will eventually be no third party support because it's so tough to develop for, so it will die. He loves Nintendo. The N64 is difficult to develop for (apparently, but what would I know) so doesn't have a great deal of third party support. However as this is on the Nintendo it is not a bad thing, as only decent games will come out, as only the best developers will be able to make the games.......

(Unfortunately I was disturbed half way through writing this, and lost the plot a bit, but I think it still makes sense.)

Right.

How on earth can you say that they are better. It hasn't even been released in this country yet. You can't tell how well games will play by just looking at the the list.

Oh, and of course the Dreamcast has a better list of games, it's been out for a fair while.

If you want childish comments, here is one.

Eat a rat and..............nah, can't say it!!
