I remember reading that if you had broadband you could get the starter kit from xbox.com from the end of this month. However today I got an email from them and it said to qualify for Xbox live you have to full in a questionnaire and then depending on the results it said a few would be chosen to try the service before its official launch. Are they just saying that and we will be able to buy the starter kit from them or do you really have to be chosen?

I created a topic about this a while ago and was horrified to find this out. It looks like if you have ADSL and a USB connection you are going to have to get a PC involved. It sucks big time.

But as I enquired and Tom discovered, a Broadband modem with BOTH a Usb and a ethernet pot will do the trick. its in a topic titled Xbox Live connection solution or something.

No idea, probably coz Halo 2 is gonna do it all.

Yea split screen play will be allowed(Depends on the game through) but if your brother or somethin wants his own unique gamertag and buddy list I think he needs to get this own starter pack. I'm not sure about that, it might be one subscription per household.

Nah ill only be peeved if I have to get my xbox and PC into close contact, which will be a nightmare for the while LIVE idea. Its meant to be plug and play, not plug, unhock xbox, drag near PC, Use routers( which cost EXTRA...

I looked on the UK part of Xbox.com, but they didn't seem to have any instructions how to connect your Xbox.

It seems that Routers are standard kit in America, explaining why they used them over there.

I hope MS aren't expecting us to wire our consoles through our PC's because that'll be a real pain!

Also, why haven't those fools made Halo "live"?
They already had the template in place with the 4 console link option...

Last thing, no one's said no to this, but it hasn't been confirmed either.

I will be able to play splitscreen over Xbox live, right?
That is, when I log on and select a game, I'll be able to have my brothers/friends play with me from my console (sheesh! I'm talking like I've already got an Xbox! :-D).

There's nothing like working with your friends next to you.
It makes working together so much more fun.

Basically, at the end of October, 3000 X-Box owners will be selected to do the beta testing. This process ends at the end of November, but of course the beta testers can carry on playing.

On November 30th comes the trial period. This is where any X-Box owner who has a broadband connection can order the starter kit from xbox.com (UK area of course). You pay the £40 but you get the extra months leading upto the official launch for free.

And then of course March 14th is the official launch where everyone can purchase their kit from shops.

So if you have broadband now and aren't selected for beta testing, fear not as you can still get onto X-Box Live as of November 30th. :-) And this is open to anyone.
