That's probably the best point that anyone has ever made.

This wouldnt be the 1st time we all waited for a game that we were told would be a classic only to find it infact turns out to be plain ordinary... weve been there before many times havnt we?.

I cant comment on Starfox cos i havnt played it yet but if this review is indeed accurate then obviously its a dissapointment to all that were looking forward to this game.

On the plus side, if NGC have under-marked recent games in that issue because they are slightly stricter in their reviews then look at the 89% ED scored, if that game scores 89% in a month of harsh reviews then ED gotta be a game and a half.

I reserve my opinion of starfox till ive played it tho, despite the fact i buy cube magazine i never take any reviewers word as gospel. For me the best reviewers are the people who pay money for these games (us) and not the magazine reviewers.

I think it's unfair how magazines can build up your anticipation for a game, only for them to stamp a less-than-expected score on it. These people working at these magazines have the rare oppitunity to go and see these games in action and play them before most other people. But surely if a game is looking and PLAYING (which is the key word here) excellent in the early stages, then it'll be just as excellent when it's finished?

maybe its cause they were prepared for a big game cause of the hype, it didnt live the hype so they scored it comparing it to the hype instead of the game itself...if you know what i mean.

Or perhaps the game just wasn't that good. Just because everyone expects a game to be excellent, doesn't mean it will be. NGC were drooling and building up hype about Turok Evolution for months, then when it arrives they stamp 71% on it and call it - and I quote - "lame compared to Timesplitters 2".

In the end, it boils down to opinion. If you like the game, sod the magazines. I love Doshin the Giant (the game, not Doshin himself you must understand), but from that list of games and their review scores, NGC plainly didn't.

Bah - new Editor! :P

I reckon the Starfox thing might have something to do with Rare leaving too. You never know... no-one's exactly 'happy' about it except Bill Gates.
I heard those voices were 'funny' rather than 'annoying' though...

And we must bear-in-mind that they've played all these games right-after running-through Mario SunShine and Resident Evil, while also having access to some other greats in the future like Zelda and Metroid Prime.
I wonder if this has anything to do with it?

They never did, their import review said that it's fun in multiplayer to have the occasional match but the single player is rubbish so not really worth the £40 price tag.

If the rumours are true about Starfox Adventures I can understand them not being particuarly please, the games been in devolpment for years now with so much hype, if it really is as short lived and shallow as people are making out then people have every right to call it shoddy. rare have had aaaaaages to get things right, by the sounds of it the only thing right is the graphics. I'll still be getting it cause I reckon it'll be a good game, not amazing but god al the same.

I do question some of NGC's reviews scores though, the fact that some really good games are geting in the high 80's and for some reason they rate Luigi's Mansion better than Pikmin, Eternal Darkness and many of games which are obvioulsy better doesn't really compute with me.

I think that's a good thing, because when a game gets a high rating then you know its gonna be great.

Atleast it's honesty.

Besides, if "average" games get lower scores, when a classic game gets the score it deserves, it'll mean more.

The fact that Turok 2 got only 1 or 2% less than Zelda 64 is testament to this!
