Having seen the spec for GTA Vice City there is only one game to get this Christmas and its not a stupid old fart plumber that should have been flushed down the toilet along time ago.

Vice City looks awesome with 120 vehicles, 40 weapons, and 9hrs worth of audio in glorous DTS sound the Gamecubes rubbish disc could not even hold the audio not to mention having no Dolby sound anyway.

Still never mind Pokemon is coming and we all know the quality of that has been series.

There is no FMV in GTA - it's done using the game engine.

As for coding, it's done using Renderware - which is also available for GC, so the results would be pretty similar.

I reckon they'd have to do away with the 'real' radio stations and go back to something like the radio stations on GTA1/2, where they just had little ditties using the internal sound chip.

Simple engine? I doubt that. Car, bike, helicopter and aircraft physics, all in one engine? Not to mention the music, which probably takes up most of the space - over 9 hours of audio.

And not forgetting that Mafia on the PC came on three CD's.

Okay, so you don't like it - but that doesn't make it 'toss', and no-one's telling you tht you have to buy it. Did it never occur to you that, once in a while, the majority may be in the right?

This isn't just hoardes of mindless idiot gamers saying that it's a great game - it's won enough awards from those within the industry, too. And if you are saying it just to annoy the likes of Top Score, why sink to his level?

Any body know if Vice City is PC bound? If so, when?

That doesn't neccesarilly mean more diskspace.
Probably less music/FMV and more efficient coding.

Let me just be clear - I'm not taking sides on this argument, because:

a) I also have a Gamecube
b) I think everyone should be able to play this game

I don't doubt that the Gamecube could handle it technically. I do, however, honestly believe that the game would be impractical on the Gamecube simply because of the capacity of the discs.

I was stating a fact, not backing you up!

Assuming "over 4.37GB" apporximates 5GB, I fail to see why any game with such a simple engine requires that much space. Something like Baldur's Gate I'll allow to take up a few gig, but a game like this toss really should be a little smaller.

The game could fit onto the Gamecube, although a fair bit of the music would have to be cut or compressed.

Anyway, GTA WOULD'VE worked on the Gamecube and DMA Design, the guys behind it, were VERY impressed with Gamecube hardware and really wanted to devellop on it.

As it turned out, Rockstar, their publishers, didn't really care for Nintendo games and sold the franchise to Sony.
Because it's been made for the PS2, GTA:VC has been optimised for the PS2, eating the full 4.7 Gb of DVD diskspace.

Although a Gamecube version clearly wouldn't have had as much music, it would've had advantages in other areas instead.

Over 4Gb for GTA3. You would need a hell of compression rate to get that into a single 1.5Gb disc. And worse, ViceCity is even bigger. Hope they use the dual layer DVD format for PS2, otherwise that will also be over 2 discs!
