Having seen the spec for GTA Vice City there is only one game to get this Christmas and its not a stupid old fart plumber that should have been flushed down the toilet along time ago.

Vice City looks awesome with 120 vehicles, 40 weapons, and 9hrs worth of audio in glorous DTS sound the Gamecubes rubbish disc could not even hold the audio not to mention having no Dolby sound anyway.

Still never mind Pokemon is coming and we all know the quality of that has been series.

Is GTA ever going to be on the GC?

Probably not, and they'd probably find a solution in their own time.

So, lets leave it.

Using your example...

So you're going to hold nine hours of music in memory? Hmm. Or do you swap discs when you flip radio stations, then swap back?

I suppose you might be able to put half the playing area and half the music on one disc, and the rest on the 2nd. Then tell the player that "those radio stations are out of range when you're on this side..."

You'd end up with an inferior game, in my view.

And we all know how successful CD-i games were!

Naturally I wouldn't be organized like that:

Disc 1: Loads up the City and music (just an example) when loading finishes (won't last long) it says insert disc 2.

Disc 2: Runs it all.

It won't be split in half just one disc loads up a lot of the game and the other disc would run it and the other part of the game that couldn't fit on the first.

Loads of games do that... if i remember correctly... yes... *tries to remember games* yes CDi games did that.

For a game like GTA, I think two discs would be a significant problem.

For example, in GTA3, several missions involved covering all three areas of the game.

Imagine...

You're racing along being pursued by police, and you cross into another area...

Up comes the screen, "Please insert disc two"

So you do.

It reloads, and then you realise that the Army have been called in and blocked the road. So you swing a U-turn and head back where you just came from...

"Please insert disc one"

Now I don't know about you, but I couldn't stick that for very long, no matter how good the game is.

1. Vice City is a good game.
2. Mario is a better game and without him where would GTA be?
3. Nintendo's specialist systems such as Musy X and flipper does mean that GTA vice city could fit onto a Gamecube disc, admittidy to do it effectivly would be tight so two discs will be needed, yet it has been done before.
4. I'm running out of points, errr Top score you don't know anything about the Gamecube so don't criticize it.

You are of course entitled to that opinion, but I disagree.

It has all of the gameplay of a number of games in one package. It's got Crazy Taxi in it. It's got any number of third-person shooters in it. It's got racers in it (car, bike and boat). It's got FPS elements in it. It's got elements of Destruction Derby games in it. And with Vice City, you even get the introduction of flight simulator elements. It's a game with a decent story. It has a large free-roaming game area and gameplay that's about as non-linear as you can get.

And it doesn't make a half-assed attempt at them either. It squashes them all together, and coughs up an amazing experience at the end of it.

Now I know this is just *my* opinion, but if you can't find anything to like in GTA, then you probably aren't that interested in gaming generally.

And what games do help anything? In the grand scheme of things, all games are pointless. None of them serve any purpose, apart from passing some time and alleviating boredom. If a certain type of game doesn't do it for you, then you simply don't buy or play it.

Running around as an Italian plumber or blue hedgehog has never made me feel like everything is right with the world, but I don't waste my time telling people how crap I think they are - I just get on with the games that I do like, and let others enjoy what they like without snorting my disgust at the human race and feeling superior to them over something as trivial as a videogame.

Nope Factor 5 has just developed a new MusyX direct system that enables the sound to use 4 times smaller space and there has been a similar one made for Graphics. Both PS2 and X-box have implemented this technology because they don't need to, Nintendo do and have done so would fit this game within its tiny disc easily.

Plus the discs are cheaper to make so two discs would hardly be a problem.
